This team looks exactly like they did down the stretch last year.
Top ten at 5x5, struggling on the PP, though PK was better.
Sunk by absymal goaltending.

Which is ok, players are learning, Cates, Brink, Foerster improving by leaps and bounds, Frost shooting more, Tippett passing more and going to the net. Even Farabee is playing better, though he's snakebit right now.

Expect more of the same next season as they cycle out some veterans and move in some kids.

Top 10 at 5v5? Did you perhaps look at the wrong column? (This is serious, not snarky.)

They’re 26th in CF%. 15th in FF%, and 14th in xGF% (MoneyPuck).

There is no measure that puts the Flyers in the top 10 at 5 on 5.

Did you sort backwards from worst to best?

Patrick Laine's quote that caused a dust up in Columbus yesterday:
“Obviously, things happened, and that was kind of it for me," Laine said. “I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year. I was tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December to start focusing on next year. I’m not going to do that. That’s frustrating as a player when you’re trying to win and some people are, you know, not like that.
“They’re a little too satisfied and too comfortable where they’re at. It wasn’t really a fit for me anymore. But here (in Montreal), it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing, we’re always trying our best. That’s what I felt about it (in Columbus).”
If asked and they were honest, I wonder if the same thing would be said by some current Flyers about their own franchise. As a follower of the club for decades the quote would ring true to me about things here. Here it is another Christmas/end of the calendar year and we all know that the season is toast. This bunch isn't going to get near the Cup for years. As one poster said, they're five years away from being five years away. It will stay this way until there is a major house cleaning. Might as well start now before players like Michkov go the Laine route and demand to get out of here.
