Why can the casual fan see that 16 is better away from 34 and 34 is better away from 16 but every coach after seeing it work goes back to the same 34 & 16

Is there a clause in their contract stating they must play together? I am really baffled why us arm chair QB's can see this but Keefe and now Berube can't see it

If I was a coach and anything at all went wrong, in a single game or a stretch of games, I'd be pretty tempted to put Matthews/Marner together and see if they can fix things. They're both phenomenal players. If they can't get the job done on the ice together then the attention, at least in the short term, will be on them.

Hard for a coach not to see if it'll work. So many great duos in history. Why not give this a try and see if it'll be a nuclear bomb in your arsenal?

I'm not saying I'd put them on a line together tomorrow if I was coaching. But I get it.

Keefe's entire game plan was to play Matthews and Marner together.

If that didn't work he just played them together some more. You really had to wonder who was calling the shots. If Keefe actually had the authority to separate the two.

These coach killers have already burned through two coaches from different ends of the spectrum.

If you let the players run one coach out of the organization you can be sure they'll do it again. Management needs to be careful regarding incentives they're creating so they don't send the wrong message. That it's ok to tune out and not play because you don't like the coach.

That if you lose enough games he'll be replaced.

Who's wearing the pants around here anyway. Because it really does look like Matthews and Marner are. Berube's just a walking meatstick who stands behind the bench chewing gum.

He should be blessed having the honour of coaching such properly compensated hockey gods.

I think the coach would agree with the casual fan on this. Likely there are more politics at play here. The two want to play together and have President Shanny on their side. Maybe some hands on the bench are tied so to say.

You can't let them make Berube the sacrificial lamb like they did Keefe. Fail again and blow it up. Do what the Rangers are doing and force them to waive. Enough is enough and the other players will get it.

It's not the first time the Rangers have blown it up either.

They won't need to force Marner or Tavares to waive. Just don't re-sign them. That's a necessary first step towards a culture change.

Shake it up more from there if they still continue to fail.

They have the 28th ranked prospect list. They will panic, cave and overpay Marner.

Depends on who does the prospect ranking...

I mean, Rangers don't have a great prospect pool either, yet they are blowing it up.

Bleacher Report has us one spot below Rangers.

I am saying because their farm system is so thin, more reason they won't let Marner walk. Ferris knows how desperate the Leafs are and will milk them. They were afraid they were so thin down the middle a couple of years ago that they overpaid David useless Kampf.

They have quite a bit of cap space now with all the organizational restructuring.

If they find a way to dump Kreider too they will easily be able to back the brinks truck up to Marner's front door.

Hawks may want to expedite their rebuild. Imagine a bidding war between the Hawks and Rangers.
