He is justifiably held to higher expectations.McTavish has been shat on all year and has been no worse than all of the other young guys. Will prob outscore all of them by a bit too.

No argument with either of those points.McT has way more moments than Cutter that make me think he will break out.
He also has way more "wtf you asshat" moments too.
Why, though? He’s being compared to other high first round picks and is very close in age to most of the guys he’s compared to (Zegras, Carlsson, Gauthier, Minty, etc)He is justifiably held to higher expectations.
No argument with either of those points.
Macs a work in progress and has struggled at times. But he’s no older or worse than most of the other young guys who have also struggled

I will cut Cutter some slack for being a first year pro though. Hopefully he’s better next year.
Cutter generates shots which creates the perception he can/should break out.No argument with either of those points.

To me it's the sheer stupidity of a lot of the things he does. I'm more critical of Mac because with him it seems less of a timing and experience thing on a lot of his plays and more of deliberately making stupid decisions which causes concern that he lacks hockey IQNo argument with either of those points.

I agree about the puck handling thing with Mac. Not sure what’s going on there, it’s bizarre.Cutter generates shots which creates the perception he can/should break out.
With Mac, the falloff in his puck handling skills is puzzling. He constantly fumbles the puck.
More evidence of their brain lock and scared to death to just make a hockey play on instinct instead of dogmatically following the script from coaching staffHow did they not get a shot through after Ersson lost his stick?
McTavish had been getting pushed at season ticket holder events as guy who’d be the next captain. That produces expectations. No argument with either of those points.

Replay looked like he was doing what he's supposed to do - angle his stick to take away a pass through the crease. Puck just wound up going off the inside of his blocker/stick.Brutal. Don't even know what Dostal was trying to do there
Agree with your first paragraph. This applies to everyone. They are a step slow all the time because their offensive instinct has been coached out of them.More evidence of their brain lock and scared to death to just make a hockey play on instinct instead of dogmatically following the script from coaching staff
I don't think MacT issue is hockey iq. In fact I think his hockey iq is quite good for player with his experience and age. The problem is his hands and skating can't catch up to the plays his brain wants to make
