When is enough? The PP coach is a nightmare. At the bottom of ranking again. Four straight years and our PP still sucks. Take into consideration that includes pulling the goalie at the end of a game. When we have the man advantage we play pass the puck until we turn it over Consider the Devils are operating at a 30%, But even just being in the middle of the pack in the last four years would make us competitive. I cringe when we get one of our meager PP as it is. The plan does nothing but make turnovers and opportunities for our opponents. We're talking about a professional Sports Team thats floundering and when can't get this clown fired and get someone better. No other business would tolerate this incompetence.

We've managed to find a way to make every single result annoying, all season.

We lose to start with which is never a good start, but at least the tank appears to be on... but then they win a few games to destroy the tank but are getting close to the point where you think we're a play-off challenger... but then they start to lose again which drags us back out of the picture but hey... the tank is back on... until they start winning again.

Moronic management, with the 13th overall pick the Flyers take... nobody of note.

They've added real and direct cross Ice passes which is an upgrade. They somehow don't create shots for anyone, but it's an alteration

The upgrade you're seeing is due to Michkov's presence, not anything the coaches have decided to do differently.

Do you remember in the offseason the Flyers (pretty sure Briere) said they'll be consulting almost everyone and anyone in the organization for PP help, because Thompson and Torts suck so much at that aspect of the game and don't know what they're doing?

That is literally the reddest flag possible an assistant coach could hold... yet the Flyers wave a green flag in front of that moronic shitbird Rocky Thompson and have been riding his tail feathers all the way to the bottom of the league in PP% for the 3rd year in a row now.

Accountability. What's that? Accountability. Not quite yet.
...
I don't wanna think about it we'd be better off without it...

This is a rebuilding team (no, it's not tanking), and like young teams, it's very inconsistent.
The schedule has never changed (2027-28) just because Michkov came over early.
Get used to this, one good game, one bad game through at least next season and maybe 2026-27.

1) haven't stabilized the goalie, Ersson/Kolosov, Fedotov? Bjarnason and Zavragin in the wings
2) need centers, Couts is a LW now, Frost and Cates still unproven
3) defense in flux

One reason Andrae is sitting is they have to figure out what to do with Zamula.
If they trade Risto, it won't be until at least the TDL.
Zamula is out of options, and he'll be claimed if waived.

They’re in the thick of it with a bunch of old broken teams. It’s the only way they can stay in the thick of it.

Ersson was not very good. He made a few nice stops, but at least two goals were ones he should have had.

Zamula thinks the game too slowly.

Am I imagining things, or has Sanheim's game declined since York has been back as his partner? What do the analytics show? He seems way less effective and less confident/aggressive in his playing since York has returned.

Tippett scored a great goal, nice to see the team at least keep fighting the whole game.

13th overall picks. Sigh.

No hope in hell at a cup run, and not low enough to find true talent. Purgatory, and they so proudly sit in it.

The Mats Sundin era Leafs would be proud.

Maybe Sanheim is more effective on the left side :dunno:

I missed this game cause I don't have TNT, so I watched Conclave on Peacock instead. I can only pick 5 channels on my FIOS package, and for now I don't want to swap out any of ESPN, Food Network, NBC Sports Philly, NHL Network and USA.

So you're basically telling me all the players taken after #5 suck?

No, he is blatantly not saying that.

You have shown that you understand the probability of success at draft positions, so I assume this strawman argument is deliberate and bad faith.
No. It simply says you should accumulate assets to improve your odds.

And you need good scouting either way, numerous players in the top 5 have flopped or been no better than those taken later in the 1st rd.

They're not going to tank, heck, it's almost impossible for this team to tank without completely tearing apart the roster. The really bad teams are that bad. Even a 80 point season will have them picking 10th or so. They have the 3rd worst Sv% in the NHL and still aren't that bad.

That would be almost impossible. Big difference between 80 and mid 80s.

You've basically got 4 unreachable teams (CHI, SJ, MTL, and ANA), 1 team that may finish below 80 (BUF), and then Nashville who can't possibly be on a PDO bender this poor forever. So it's a question of how quickly they start getting back to normal.

Feel free to add in one or two of the borderline teams if you prefer (DET and CBJ are probably the best bets), but it can't be all of them.

THEY HAVE A LEAGUE WORST SEVEN REGULATION WINS!

Congrats, you can survive until OT. Much success. Much praise.

Also, I can't help but chuckle at the "you should accumulate assets to improve your odds" and "you're basically telling me that players taken after #5 suck" when we've had this exact person handwave any picks after the second round as being completely and utterly useless.

Last year 8-10 were 81 points, Buff 84, Flyers 87
Five worst teams 47, 52, 59, 66, 76
Year before, 8-10 were 80, 80. 81
Five worst teams 58, 59. 59, 60, 68

The odds really fall off after the 2nd rd, and are slim and none after pick 100 if you're looking for top 6/top 4 starters. If you want AAA plus types, that's another story.

If the Flyers can't scout and draft, tanking won't help unless they end up with #1 AND a clear cut franchise player on the board. Otherwise they'll just end up with Patrick or Kakko.

They hand out draft picks for last year's teams now?

The board as currently constructed looks good for 80 being roughly 5th-8th. I don't like arbitrary thresholds, but if we're going to frame arguments around one, then it's fair game to examine it. Of course anything could happen. But you operate based on the information you have at the time.

It says more than that and you know it. You are aware that a top 5 or even top 10 pick has a higher probability of success than a mid-round pick. You know this. You have written it, repeatedly, over many years.

There is no utility in holding onto a single asset that is not relevant to Michkov's prime years. Laughton, Seeler, Hathaway, Risto, possibly Cates, probably Tippett, all fit that category. You aren't going to magically acquire talent following your and the team's preferred path of Hextallianism: doing too little too slowly.

They need to be picking high, they need to be picking frequently. Both things. There is a single way to do that. You know this, too. It's an inevitable conclusion. The only reason you deny it is to defend the team. If they ever clear out management and do the inevitable, you'll instantly come around to the idea.

You need to stop and think about all the ridiculous things that have to be said in order to pretend this management's path is acceptable. And then ask if that's worth defending.
