Not to defend Doughty here, but the guy is playing an extra 2:45 a game over last year and leads the Kings in minutes played by a mile right now at 27:38 a game. The next highest is Scuderi at 23:38. Considering Scuds is his partner, that doesn't help as Scuds is getting over three minutes a game more than last year, so i imagine fatigue is likely playing a factor. Not to mention Doughty has the longest average shift per game of any King at 49 seconds/shift.
In fact, in the entire league, only Jack Johnson (ironic, I know) Erik Karlsson and Ryan Suter play more minutes per game than Doughty, and only Karlsson's numbers look good. Suter and Doughty are seperated by just an average of two seconds per game, so he's basically third in the league in ice time.
And since plus/minus only counts for even strength goals, DOughty is seventh in the league in 5-on-5 ice time.
It would be good for him to be able to cut back on the workload I think, but that isn't likely to happen with A-Mart out apparently.
