30 Goals Against; Doughty is a -10....

Haven't seen the last couple of games as I've been in New Orleans so I can only comment on what I've seen. He'd been playing great, just out there against the opposing top lines a lot. I'm not concerned.

Sigh. I just really really ****ing hate fantasy hockey for what it's done to the fans. Doughty has been fine. He's really had to change his role a bit. He's got to eat a lot of minutes and play a whole hell of a lot more with Greene and Mitchie out. Plus minus is a useless stat IMO. Has Doughty been Norris Doughty that we all want? No. But he's been fine for the most part.

facing off against the top O lines from the opponent. team D as a whole has been spotty at times. goaltending hasn't been up to par in most games. his stat will take a hit, just like others will.

offensive struggles on the other end as usual, to not counteract the stats.

DD is playing great. im sure he's gripping for some points, but right now logging TOI in a shutdown capacity with the depleted D is more important.

LA improves their offense, the team D improve and bit and the goalies get back on track - this stat flips around quickly.

another reason why the +/- stat isn't a 'tell all' stat to rely on. it has its place, but needs to be reviewed with other stats to complete the picture.

Not to defend Doughty here, but the guy is playing an extra 2:45 a game over last year and leads the Kings in minutes played by a mile right now at 27:38 a game. The next highest is Scuderi at 23:38. Considering Scuds is his partner, that doesn't help as Scuds is getting over three minutes a game more than last year, so i imagine fatigue is likely playing a factor. Not to mention Doughty has the longest average shift per game of any King at 49 seconds/shift.

In fact, in the entire league, only Jack Johnson (ironic, I know) Erik Karlsson and Ryan Suter play more minutes per game than Doughty, and only Karlsson's numbers look good. Suter and Doughty are seperated by just an average of two seconds per game, so he's basically third in the league in ice time.

And since plus/minus only counts for even strength goals, DOughty is seventh in the league in 5-on-5 ice time.

It would be good for him to be able to cut back on the workload I think, but that isn't likely to happen with A-Mart out apparently.

He hasn't been nearly as good as the majority of the board thinks he has been. I couldn't believe that some said he looked like the best defenseman in the league after the Ducks game; the best defenseman in the league does not get his pocket picked by Nick effing Bonino for an immediate goal against.

He hasn't been terrible, but he hasn't been great either. His stats would be better if you could reduce his minutes but that doesn't appear to be feasible any time soon.

Also, I'm tired of hearing the "lack of power play" excuse for why his point totals are low. He is the quarterback of the thing and needs to do a better job as he should be a serious threat to score from the blueline...he's just not very good at getting his shots through.

Playing 1/2 the game and only being on for 1/3 of the goals against puts him ahead in my book

He does need to be better though, I think BigKing nailed it.

I don't have the stats right now, but I'd wager he has been on the ice for about 50% of the goals against. He's only a -10, but +/- doesn't count PP goals against, and also he has been on the ice for some even strength goals for as well.

20 of those 30 goals have been right off a face-off because our centers have struggled with the new "no hand-pass rule" off a d-zone face-off which I swear was instituted this season because of Stoll.

I am being sarcastic of course...but we have allowed alot of goals off of face-offs and set plays that Doughty just happens to be on the ice for because he is typically the pairing called for a d-zone faceoff.

The Stool Rule ;)

Basically, Doughty's been on the ice for 33% of our goals against. This season, is there something wrong with Drew so far? :help:

well. that 33% of goals wont work... he was on ice for more than 33% goals... at least 14 goals (cca 50%) but probably more..

why? he is -10 but he go atleast +4 in some strech because his 4 assist.. but he was on ice probably more, but didnt collect any assist..

ps: PP goals dont count in that category too..

edit: but that is just for fantasy.. he is playing damn good..

If Quick were stopping pucks at a normal rate, other fanbases wouldn't be freaking out about this.

No wait, there'd probably still be five threads on the main board. :)

Three of his assists came on the powerplay, so those don't count towards +/-, only even-strength goals do.

my bad.. didnt check that.. but anyway.. you cant calculate on how many goals have been #8 on ice... you can say only 33% of unanswered goals.. but even that sounds weird..

Someone posted elsewhere that his on ice save% is in the low .800, like .820. Noone is going to have a high +-/ with that being the case

He definitely needs to start producing points though. He isn't paid 7mill to just be a defensive specialist

He is solid defensively, but has all kinds of trouble finding the net. Either he has lost his scoring touch or opponents figured him out. His shots are always blocked or wide.

He'll be fine though.

It's not how you start, it's how you finish.

Drew has the "IT" factor. Not worried about him.

Just want him to stop getting his shots blocked.

I think that's a fact. (in fact)

If the team can score more so they're not 27th or 28th in scoring, Doughty's +/- number will be fine. Not that I'm checking it or anything.

... and DD has been playing fine (IMO too!) :D
