Well as the team falls down the standings it is time to visit the trade values of players currently being mentioned.

First expiring contracts

Dadanov- 50% retention May get us a 6th- has been a bust

Drouin- 50%retention could get you a 4th - injury prevented any thing better

Byron- no trade value- could get a 5-7 pick with 50%retention if he plays 15 games prior to deadline

Monahan- I think a 2nd conditional to a first based on playoff rounds and play. 50% retention

team strategy is to play these guys to increase value. Maximum 3 retention spots.

Hockey Trades

Edmundson a second and a third with 50 retention or two seconds with a bad contract back

Anderson - potential first no retention

Jake Allen- second and third with a goaltender coming back

We will see what Hughes can get but the easy trades occurred last year.

I really hope they aren't trying to pump the value of garbage. Ohhhh, we might get a 5th round pick instead of a 6th while playing deadweight above our 1st OA pick. I know it's actual GM logic that's been played out before, on this very team even, but for the life of me I can't spot the logic.

I don't know if you're listing different possible trades or if you want all of these trades to occur, because you can only retain salary on 3 players.

I think we trade:
Monahan 50% for 1st (late 2023 or 2024)
Edmundson 50% for 1st (2024 or later)
Drouin 50% for a 2nd
Dadonov for a 4th/ a 2nd if we get a sizable cap dump back
Pitlick for a 5th

What is particular about the 30 game mark other than being a nice round number? I don’t recall a flurry of activity in past years at this time.

We’re headed for a holiday roster freeze that prevents the announcement of any trade beginning tomorrow, December 19th and ending December 27th, midnight. Teams can still talk though.

With only a few hours left to go to Dec. 19th, any trade potential will become more clear as of Dec. 28th — perhaps a couple of teams may decide to bail on the season by that point which could prompt something.

On team strategy the post has maximum 3 retention spots

The significance is the outlook is down dramatically from the season start

Personally, I think you want the last 20 games to play your prospects to see how they perform and fit in the team In an expanded role. You get back what the market dictates. Drouin and Dado ov unfortunately will return next to nothingness

This is one of the craziest things I've ever seen posted. Nobody is giving you a 4th for Drouin, let alone a 2nd, even with 50% retained.

Basing it off GM overpaying for draft status like they have done. May very end up being lower depending on demand.

Man we’d be lucky to find someone who takes him if we retained 50% and GAVE a 2nd

He's an expiring contract. Shows how much you actually know.

Even if we could somehow retain 100%, Drouin and Dadanov still have negative value. Don't know when I've watched worse regulars in the top 9 of a Habs line up, can add Armia to that list

Monahan and Eddie would get 1sts with 50% retention

Oh I know. Why would anyone pay a draft pick to take him off our hands? He doesn't produce offense, he sucks defensively, and no physicality.

If we get rid of him, it's cause we pay the other team to take him, like happened for Monahan.

i thought they would maybe keep Monahan but all the smoke that's emerging makes it seem like a Toffoli situation.
I think Edmundson is also gone. I think he wants to head west to be closer to his mom and will be traded to Edmonton or winnipeg.
Daddy and Johny are worthless. won't get any return imo.
I think they may also deal Dvorak if the price is right.
Dach has shown enough at C, that right now they're comfortable with him there - as they look to find another C in next summer's top 10.
It's a nice problem to have. Maybe slaf joins batman and robin; maybe Dach returns if they land a Fantilli or Carlsson...
I also think If they create bidding wars (or Eddy, Monahan Dvorak); maybe they get a 1st or two for these guys. I also think Hughes will settle for 1sts beyond 2023 if he gets that 3rd one for next summer.

Start of season without retention VS TDL with retention.

Statement regarding your actual hockey knowledge still stands.

No one is touching Dadonov or Drouin. Besides, the tank needs them.

As for Edmundson, you want to attach a pick to him + retention to get a bad contract back?
That’s a little too negative. Drouin is an insanely bad fit on this team, it’s conceivable that he’d have some value to another team, though it looks like his shot is totally gone. No argument for Dadanov, looks like his game fell off a cliff. Edmundson should have value from the playoff run.

I'd love it if you were right but JD is a 0.4-0.5 ppg guy who brings nothing other than mediocre offense. 40-ish point guys who kill penalties, stir the pot, throw hits etc might have value but I don't see many teams looking at the current version of Drouin with his 0G-5A line and determine he's worth much in trade and/or is any better than guys they already have.
