Eh he’s got 3 years of development on those guys, But it’s fantastic that lacombe is looking great. No real rush on the younger guys, just let em learn at their pace

Maybe he was talking about someone else’s overwhelming amount of txt and charts….

Yeah not meant to convey any concern about the other two, just eating crow on Lacombe more than anything.

As pathetic as I may be…. If we play good again next game. The breakouts and the passes and the defensive game….. I’m all the way back in. Kill me now.
For me its if we win next game and split v Utah and vegas to go into the break 1 game below 500

Yeah I don’t need wins because I don’t expect them with this roster, but we see what the team is capable of in terms of how they CAN play. There’s an entertaining team in there just begging to be let loose and I hope they will be.

I think this is flawed thinking. This roster is by no means as bad as some here want to make it out to be. It could certainly be better but it’s not horrific. It’s putting together consistent performances like we saw last night

Wow. Look at the chest thumping about Eklund today. Where the hell was this enthusiasm for the past three seasons? Oh, that's right... Mac was the better prospect in those seasons. Now, let's use context and ask yourself if Eklund would that be productive under a Cronin offense? If you said no, then why are you chest thumping?

Why are you attacking me personally with a cheap dig (I am surprised Mods are allowing that personal attack; guess that's the new standard.), but then you try to cover your conniving comment with, "Not ready yet to call it a miss, but not looking good." Are you still mad that I predicted the correct pick from that draft? Get over it and yourself. The 2021 draft was 3+ years ago. Why not use intelligence to understand why Mac isn't producing today?

None of our young forwards are looking good under Cronin. Z (2019 draft), Mac (2021), Cutter (2022), Carlsson (2023) and, to an extent, Colangelo (2020) have not looked good under Cronin. Derek Lee went into depth specifically with Mac and his struggles under Cronin; the problem is how Cronin views Mac as Tkachuk rather viewing Mac as Mac.

Cronin is better at coaching are our youth defensemen to be more offensive than our youth forwards.

LaCombe almost netted goal #7 four times tonight against the Jets. Our youth defense (LaCombe 4, Minty 4, and Zell 1) had a total of 9 shots against the Jets; whereas our youth forwards has a total of 3 shots (Carlsson 0, Cutter 2, and Mac 1). LaCombe and Zell are on the verge of passing up all of our youth forwards in scoring.

Trying to discover why something is working or not working (or predicting draft picks) via qualitative analysis is probably best left to me, since I know how to understand and interpret it. See above qualitative breakdown why singling out Mac is sheer stupidity.
No chest thumping, preferred Eklund but once Mac was drafted, he’s a Duck. Second guessing Ducks draft picks isn’t something I do, things rarely become clear for a few years anyway. Speaking of chest thumping, keep up the good work with your “qualitative”analysis.

I was very impressed with the defense and the PK despite the quick goal in that first PK. The defense looked spectacular at moments, especially the first period. Positionally very good, didn’t let the Jets skate past without at least a little friction, sticks were working. PK was shutting the Jets down in the neutral zone at times. They just looked very competent for big chunks of the game.

This exactly. They looked competent. They looked like an actual NHL team that belonged on the same ice as a very good opponent (granted, one that played the night before). Their neutral zone passes connected, they were making good reads on defense, their breakouts were largely effective - the only thing missing was a bit better finish on the offensive side of the puck (both shots and passes leading to scoring opportunities).

There are some games where they play like this and they'll lose due to their lack of finishing skill (the Kings Black Friday game). And there are some games where they won't be quite as crisp, and a less tired team will take advantage. But if they could play like last night 75% of the time, I would be so satisfied.

Yea. The kings Black Friday game was the most recent game with a similar level of play.
If we were near 500 and playing like his consistently then I think we all agree progress is being made. At least we would be watchable regularly

That being said it would still be nice to see some Leo/McT progression.

That’s the only thing which leaves a bad taste after last night. They were both unengaged and didn’t contribute at all to what was a great performance by the rest of the team.

I don't think they were unengaged. Both were playing hard and were involved in the play. I thought both played really well in their own zone. Carlsson I thought was good, but just can't seem to put the final piece or two in place to start producing on the scoreboard. You can see the potential there.

McTavish I'm a bit more worried about. His game has been better lately from a play-driving aspect, but he continues to struggle with handling pucks and getting shots and passes through defenders. He whiffed on a one-timer last night - he was money on those his rookie season and the beginning of last season.

I mean it’s not like they weren’t trying but they didn’t really have the puck and weren’t creating much outside of a few nice plays on the PP. The Carlsson line also got hemmed in again and came up with a terrible shift at the end of the game. I didn’t think either was good.
