More and more people are coming out saying the 3 point shot is killing the game. Even though teams are shooting more, percentage wise, they are hitting the same amount then in the early 90's. I personally find it boring too. I think one way to help lower the attempts is to not reset the shot clock after a missed 3. Bring the ball up the court and setting up your offense for 10 - 12 seconds and jacking up a 3 would be less incentivized if you knew it would kill your change of getting rebound and a second chance. With great risk comes great reward.

I also think zone defense is killing the game but that's a different subject.

Nah when there is good ball movement and within the flow and they make rhem it’s fun to watch tbh

Also this video that came after Boston made tons of 3s on opening night proves those shots had to be taken

As for zone defense,I’m glad it’sback

Watching those 90s ISO plays hurts my eyes tbh, and the illegal defense rule waa stupid.

Zone defense has initially allowed for more complex defensive, which overtime led to more complex offensive schemes to counter those defensive schemes

If they want to fix basketball just get rid of calling offensive charging. I want to see this behemoths of men plow through one another til only the strongest survive

This is interesting. 40 % of attempts are from 3... That is not going to draw audiences overall although I watched the Mavs and Warriors this week and it had a nice mix of everything. Great game.

Other factors have impacted ratings

10 minute highlights are now available on youtube, a lot of people watch these now. It’s a long regular season, people prefer spending their time doing something else

Short form content is all the rage now

Inflation and expensive sport networks = people use illegal streaming

Heck even a rich dude like Lebron uses illegal streaming (look it up)

f*** that idiot Shaq. NBA on TNT is funny but I won’t miss those f***ing nostalgic old heads and their « analysis »

My theory is Gen Z is less into sports than Gen X and millennials. You can feel it on the internet it feels like we're all over 30 these days. Is HF getting new members that are teenagers that are so new they have to pretend they watched hockey even during the two Tampa cups 3-4 years ago, I don't know, it doesn't feel like it. Millennials were the last generation that had nothing to do at night except watch Sportscenter twice. Gen Z is overall a unique generation when it comes to social media, politics, gender politics (sports heroes are masculine), etc. They also have other quirks like having no interest in rock music.

NBA is just a shit product

aside from the fact that most games are 3 pt chucking contests, injuries, load management, and guys sitting out games because of soreness is killing the game. they'd be far better off eliminating back to backs altogether because you're guaranteed to have a star or two sitting the second game out

Zone defense means you guard a spot and not a player. This clogs up lanes and prevents miscues on D. Give and goes, back door passes, even dunks suffer. I would rather a player getting exposed as a bad defender every time down the court instead of relying on collapsing d to bail him out. Man on man D with hand checking makes you work for baskets and gives the defender an advantage to make up for being reactive to the offensive player. Basketball is better when the offense spreads the floor and the lanes are open for a game of chess instead of clogging the middle and playing connect 4.

They should be penalized for a miss. Shot clock doesn't reset.
Take 3 points off the board after consecutive misses. That'll fix this shit in a week's time. Only true snipers who can do it will be tossing 3's anymore. Everyone who can breathe just thinks it's carte blanche to go 1-7 every night

This is like if every MLB players went up to the plate and swung as hard as they could only trying to hit homers from every pitch. Every quarterback only going deep on every throw or NHL players only shooting one timers.

Players have such terrible inside games now.

It's funny but every sport but hockey has an epidemic that's making it all but unwatchable now. You can't touch QB's in the NFL or defend anyone. In baseball it's twofold with the home run and fastball obsession. In the NBA it's the 3 pointer.
