Consider yourself fortunate. You are missing nothing of importance haha.Shows you how really old I am. Not only do I not know who Hawk Tuah Girl is, but I also don't know what Crypto is.![]()
I'm not going to start jumping ahead of myself, but this has some echos of 2019
Against some top tier competition too. It’s very promising. This was an incredible game to watch. The intensity was super high and both teams made some great plays. Holloway f***ing TRUCKED some kid that had me on my feet in my living room. Binny has his faults, but my God when he's locked in he's something else.
Our 5v5 play since the break has been incredible. We were showing huge improvement under Monty 5v5 prior to the 4 Nations, but this is elite level play at the moment. The Faksa line is coming in at an xGF% of 75. If any one of them could finish, that line would be absurd, but even so, their territorial dominance is helping tilt the ice. Thomas' line is around 66, with an 8-1 mark in actual Goals For. The Sunny line is sitting at around 55% for xGF. The only line that hasn't really been driving play is the Schenn line, but they've been b/t +1 to +4 from a GF perspective. Our top 4, led by Broberg, has been a revelation. Broberg is CRUSHING his assignment, with an xGF% of 74, and a HDCF% of 82!!!! Eighty-two percent! Small sample size but jeeeezus. We aren't sheltering him either, as he has an offensive zone start % of under 50.
I'm not going to start jumping ahead of myself, but this has some echos of 2019 - our underlying 5v5 play was way better then our results when Beruebe became HC (Which was the case for the first call it 30 games under Monty), but our goaltending was costing us a lot of games. Then all of a sudden Binny came up and got locked in and the rest was history. When I watch this team today, I'm seeing a team that is relentless on D. When I watch the way we backcheck and hound pucks, I'm reminded of 2019. When I watch the way we support each other in the offensive and neutral zone, I'm reminded of 2019. We are so much more confident in holding pucks and looking to make plays in the offensive zone. Maybe we flame out in the first round, but if we can keep playing this style and sneak in, especially with Binny locked in, I sure as hell wouldn't want to play us.
Our special teams will sink us if we make it into the playoffs. This was an incredible game to watch. The intensity was super high and both teams made some great plays. Yep, that's clearly our Achilles heel. I think the PP has been....OK, but the PK is putrid and has been for a couple of years now. Cleaning that up should be a huge priority in the off-season.Our special teams will sink us if we make it into the playoffs.
Is that the benefit of not being on Facebook, X, or any of the Internet-based communication platforms, and not watching any US TV or US films, or reading or watching US news reports?Consider yourself fortunate. You are missing nothing of importance haha.
Not here to disagree, because I think this team has been playing confident and determined hockey even in losses. They are staying competitive in most games I've seen since the 4 Nations, and I think this bodes incredibly well for the future. I do see shades of 2019 in this team in how they compete for each other, make smart plays, fight for their goalie, but the biggest difference is that the 2019 team absolutely was a good team on paper and elite when Berube took over and had a goalie who could make a save. I see this team as a precursor to an elite team that is showing potential of who they are and what they can become. I still feel that this team is too green despite them not really being young or inexperienced at all. Thomas won a cup, Schenn won, Parayko won, Binnington won, Suter, Leddy, Broberg, Fowler, Faksa, Faulk, Holloway have gone on deep runs; most of these guys have been deep in the playoffs and know what it takes to win, so it's not surprising to see them playing well, but also sort of is because a large percent of the roster is complimentary players, some of who are playing important roles when they probably shouldn't be.This was an incredible game to watch. The intensity was super high and both teams made some great plays. Holloway f***ing TRUCKED some kid that had me on my feet in my living room.
