GDT: 3/30/25 Utah @ Hawks 3pm CHSN

Defensively team is rough post Jones trade. Say what you will but a guy who can eat 25 minutes without much drop off in play kept the team sort of treading water a lot of games.

Bedard with so many blind passes in this game. Next season, hopefully our new coach won't just keep throwing him out there if he continues to play Junior hockey. He needs some tough love.
this is probably the first real 'adversity' he's faced in his life hockey wise, his production is still OK, he'll be a better player in a few years from this

Yes, but we are also nearly two full seasons into his career now and he’s still making the same dumb mistakes. Not entirely his fault as he hasn’t had a real coach yet, but it’s still frustrating as a fan at the same time.

I agree that he has not evolved much. I put that in the lack of coaching. He would love to have a real coach teach him as he is a big student of the game. Not the turd buckets we have saddled him with on the bench.

Watching the first goal it’s kind of insane where Lev starts on the play and ends with how he doesn’t even look like he trying to skate.

I'm excited for this upcoming phase. Time to see which prospects are men and mice, time to bring in quality talent to ease them in .and help build up. Gonna guess Rinzel is on the opening roster for next year and Moore will start in Rockford.

I know everyone is full of glee with the new signings Rizel and Moore coming onboard today I want to remind everyone how the Blackhawks lineup looked 2 days before GMKD took the interim GM position.
Hawks vs. Detroit -October 24, 2021:
Stan Bowman legacy to the Blackhawks.

This was the lineup for the Blackhawks iced that evening (Kaner had Covid). BEFORE THE TEARDOWN STARTED.

Blackhawks lineup in warmups:

DeBrincat-Dach-Hagel
Johnson-Toews-Kubalik
Strome-Borgstrom-Gaudette
Kurashev-Carpenter-Johnson

de Haan-Jones
McCabe-Murphy
Gustafsson-Mitchell

Fleury
Lankinen

I would say mission completed on the retooled defense, but we really need to get moving on the forwards -- We still have only 1 line of offense

his skating might need to take another step for him to hit the next level
I agree with Bobby, he tries too many plays that seemingly work in the CHL but unless he's doing that with more speed he often traps himself.

Also where is this kid's insane shot? Is it his flex or something not translating to the NHL level? I figured he'd be shooting laser beams in the slot regularly by now but I don't see it very much.

I was surprised by how well Rinzel looked out there. 4 shots on goal and a few of them were really good looks. Speed was evident, he was great carrying the puck in.

Seravalli said that he thinks Rinzel won't see the AHL at all in his career and he'll be a top pairing D. It's one game, but I can see that. Him and Lev might be the best 1/2 punch on the right side for a decade.

And University of Minnesota really cranking out some good D recently. Faber has had a down year, relative to expectations, but he's still a stud RHD. Lacombe's really come into his own this season and is potentially a top pairing D long term. Hoping Rinzel continues that tradition.

No it isn't. I know KK's only 20 but he is still the same player ... without improvement. Lev and Rinzel are already ahead of him, as is Edm, Allan, Crevier and 44, IMO. There's only so much room here.... somebody is bound to be traded away - he would be my first choice.
If you don’t see the improvement in KK this year, you haven’t been watching him. Lately he is much more assertive, much more physical and has played much better defensively in the games I have watched him in Rockford. I mean I am really impressed with Rinzel’s first game, and I have been a fan for a while, but to declare he has passed KK (who is literally the same age as him) is premature. He very well might turn out better, but let’s not forgot that KK, deservedly, made the NHL out of camp last year as a 19 year old defenceman.

there is one thing I hope when it comes down to the Korchinski vs Kaiser/EDM debate that will likely ultimately need to happen...that is that KD doesn't just give Korchinski the benefit of doubt because he was his pick and Kaiser/EDM were Bowman/Kelley picks...he gave Vlasic the long term deal so doubt its a factor but never know

If Korchinski is going to struggle defensively, then he needs to show a huge offensive outburst to make up for it.

Vlasic and EDM are light years ahead of him defensively. If you want an eventual contender, you want these guys to hold their own in their own zone. That’s why those two right now are who people pencil into the top 4 with Lev and Rinzel. Every one of those guys will be a positive defensively and every one of them can move the puck.

I assume with everyone being up they’re trying to figure out who fits best in the future. Not necessarily giving up on anyone, but I have a feeling Davidson is going to make a play for a big time forward and one of these defensemen is going to be involved.

I feel like going into next season, playing bottom pair NHL minutes would be the perfect spot for him and he can play with Murphy as a babysitter. Some defensemen take a while and if he ever figures it out, he will be very effective back there.

it might be hard to get a big time forward for anyone that is not named Vlasic, Rinzel or Levshunov but your point makes sense that they're trying to get a sense for who will be in their long term plans

if he has real trade value this summer they might need to consider it now because if he does struggle again next year he's in Reichel territory and his value would likely be significantly diminished
