Hockey News compares Englund to Douglas Murray

Above link compares him to Volchenkov but focuses on his high end skating as well

LOLOLOL.

Great we got a player who can't even stand on skates....

Damn Pollock would have been perfect.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what the scouts think of him. On first observation seems like a guy with limited upside compared to what else is on the board.

Yup, and have I spurted out my disliking of them NOT Drafting CURTIS LAZAR'S 'RIGHT-HAND-MAN'...???

Clearly you are in fact literate, so I'll just quote this again for you:

"Englund has very good mobility for his size. He is a smooth skater with good speed in both directions. His first step and acceleration are also very good. Englund has good edgework, a good first step, and solid agility which allows him to keep himself in front of attackers and makes him difficult to beat one-on-one. He is also solid on his skates, showing good balance, which helps him to win his battles on the boards."

This always happens. That has nothing to do with who our scouts like. The fact that we have seen him so much, and never picked him speaks volumes.

Will he ever play for us? What is his future projection placing on this team?

He's really good judging by the blurry youtube vids I've seen in the last 5 minutes.

i asked about him a while ago

Big guy, good skater, plays simple but effective, seemed to make good outlet passes. Thought the game was pretty awful overall and I thought Djurgarden looked terrible but he stood out and I liked him. Ran into P Dorion a few days later and told him about him, but I was very drunk so I can't say he took me very seriously haha
hey thanks. i was particularly interested in hearing about him. didn't know anything, but he looked interesting.

As for people complaining about not taking shiny prospect X or Y because they have a lot of points in major junior, those points don't always translate to success in the NHL. Sure that play COULD be amazing, but they are also as likely to end up as guys who do not end up in the NHL 5 years down the road.

Trust in our euro scouting department, if they like this guy and think he has a high chance of being an NHL player (regardless of ceiling) then he is a good selection. Getting an NHL player out of any round that is not the first is a crap shoot anyway.

I'm sure there were guys available that might have a higher ceiling, but I like this pick. We're trying to build a contender and you need guys in the mold of Englund to win it. Look at our current roster and how many warriors do you see? This guy is big, has a mean streak, can SKATE, and can play defense. How many of those do we have? I can think of Methot, and that's probably it. Certainly not Cowen, Phillips, Gryba, or Wiercioch.

Does anyone else think we take these "high character" guys because when contract time arrives they'll take the discounts to play with the club that drafted them and has treated them well.
