To BUF:
2025 2nd overall pick
Quentin Musty
Mario Ferraro

To SJ:
2025 9th overall pick
JJ Peterka
Bowen Byram

Sabres get a shot at Misa to form a 1-2 punch with Tage along with a lower end Byram replacement for a year and a local kid with top six potential. Sharks significantly improve their roster by adding another young top six forward to Celebrini, Smith and Eklund and a young top 4 D who can hopefully continue to develop into a top pairing option after missing out on Schaefer. Plus a chance to still grab someone like McQueen or Mrtka with the 9th pick.

How far off is the value?

Most Sabres fans will say we are trying to compete now and are not interested in prospects anymore.

But with the Sabres doubling down on GM Kevyn Adams and HC Lindy Ruff I think we are still a full front office + coaching rebuild away from even beginning to try to compete.

I don't see the Sabres ever winning a Cup with Kevyn Adams at the helm, or with most of the players that he's assembled.

I think there's a higher probability of winning a cup with Misa and Musty in rebuild #3 than continuing to double down on rebuild #2.

Just what Buffalo needs, more question marks to extend the rebuild of the rebuild of the rebuild even longer.:sarcasm:

Not discussing the merit of the players involved here and the value.

What Buffalo needs is a true right shot RD who can play mid pair that is in their mid 20s

Buffalo has winger depth and could replace peterka internally or they acquire a short term vet.

Buffalo has Rosen entering hus final ELC yr. They also have istlund, hrlenius, snd Wahlberg in thr AHL.

If thEY were to trade peterka/ let him go in an OS Buffalo woulf have

BENSON-norris- Thompson
Zucker-Kulich-Tuch
Greenway-McLeod-Quinn

I know how much disdain you have for Power -- but you call OP's post garbage value when this is pretty garbage value too.

In a vacuum, I think OP's post isn't awful value. Musty is certainly a piece that Buffalo needs more of (big body who uses it, good passer, good shot). Misa.....he may not be elite, but he'd again be exactly what Buffalo needs long-term.

I've got no issue giving up JJP or Byram.......BUT.....not getting a right-handed D back for either of them is where I pretty much shut this whole idea down. Ferraro is a fine player, and if he were right-handed.....I'm more or less fine with the deal. But, we don't need a LHD who more than likely couldn't handle the minutes Dahlin gets.

I know your disdain for Peterka... practically giving him away in offers.

The OP is a garbage offer.

A top 4 dman and a top line winger to jump 7 spots.? Idiotic.

A top 4 dman to jump 7 spots in this draft is more than adequate plus a winger with loads of potential and removing Musty is significantly a better deal.

I'd be down for the OP in terms of value. Just...

The ammo Buffalo has for improving the roster should not go towards the #2 pick in this draft. Besides, your offer makes the team worse, not better.

Given where the Sharks I'd rather add a 18 year old future 1B center in Misa then three really good pieces. I'd love to add Byram or JJP, and I imagine Mrtka could be there at 9.

However, Buffalo can't do this to their fans. They absolutely cannot be moving talent out for futures. Byram is a 23 year old 2/3 dman, JJP is a legit top 6 forward. It'll be (at least) two (maybe 4-5) years before Misa is outplaying JJP alone, which likely means two more years of extending the streak.

Musty is a local boy though- not sure if he wore the pajamas or not?- maybe he'd be valued at some point, but not in this deal.

Value is reasonably fair to both sides, but I don't believe either side would or should make that deal. I don't think SJ is at the point where they should be taking shortcuts on their rebuild. Schaeffer or Misa should be looked upon as foundational pieces. As for Buffalo, all three of those pieces should be on the trade block (along with Power). But goal should be finding a top RD and a top six forward with a solid 200' game. If they can play a heavy game that would be an added bonus.

I think the Isles are taking Misa.

I guess throwing the towel in early is better than having a false sense that the rebuild is over like most teams do. This way you still have a young core to build around. Just have to shake that losing culture.

Completely understand why Sabres fans might not like it, it’s probably decent value overall… but I hate it with my whole heart. I’m not interested in trading Misa for guys I don’t see as core-caliber players (no disrespect to Byram or Peterka, who are obviously good players).

Now if Buffalo wanted to nuke their fan base from orbit and toss us Dahlin for #2 and Dickinson, we can talk. :naughty:

Take 9 out and the value gets better.

Byram is considerably better than Ferraro right now and has more upside.

Peterka is better than Misa right now, will be for 3 years, and may always be: that’s a real boom/bust portion of the trade and I’m not sure Musty makes up for that.

The Sabres do get upside in the cap space and the opportunity to use it to add needed veterans to replace the holes this trade creates. Not sure their management is capable of using it.
