2c to Colorado

I think if the Avs can acquire a 2C and bump Mittlestadt down the lineup they are very dangerous

So what would it cost for the Avs to acquire O'Reilly, Nelson?

I am thinking an deal starts with a 1st and one of Gulyayev or Olausson
 
Nelson isn't going to Colorado - Don't want Mittlestadt at all...yet alone for Nelson. We would want Ritchie and we know Colorado isn't moving him. You need to find another team for a 2C

I think Nelson's value would be more like 1st, Olausson or Gulyayev, maybe something else small if there were a bidding war. Mittlestadt would be off the table for a rental i would think.

Not interested in a 5'10 D prospect at all. Olausson may turn out to be a bottom 6, doesn't score much at all througout in the lower levels. Not the value we are looking for Nelson who will be hot at the TDL.
 
Colorado will have ~$3.8M in cap space when Miles Wood comes off LTIR (in the next couple games). That means heavy retention on Nelson, which is going to drive the price up even further. O'Reilly would be doable if the Avs freed up a little more room, but the club has other issues that need to be addressed with this cap space. Not to mention, there's a ton to unpack with that player and the team in question.

If Colorado makes a move at 2C, I am confident Casey Mittelstadt is going the other way in the deal. Mittelstadt has been a colossal disappointment; his rise and fall has been more rapid than Ziggy Stardust's. The guy was a perfect fit the first 50 games (incl. playoffs), but his last 30 have been so disturbingly poor that he was arguably deserving of healthy scratches at times. Did I mention Colorado traded their most premium controllable asset for him?

This is why, Nelson is not a match. We wouldn't want Mittelstadt and if we are heavy retaining, we would want Ritchie.

Didn’t they already trade their most valuable assets for Necas and Mittelstadt? Surely they have a 2C already :laugh:

are you accouting for nelsons contract being prorated?

Neither can the Bridgeport Islanders this year. However, the Islanders already have Pierre Engvall playing NHL minutes still as a bottom 6 forward utilizing the may not be able to cut it portion. Adding in another just wouldn't cut it.
 
When Sakic and his GM were pondering about moving Rantanen, I am sure they looked at the cap space and who they could target after that trade. They have the advantage of calling GM's like the Canucks, Islanders, Preds. They know what the prices are.

I wish us luck trying to guess the trade Sakic will do.

Look at Horvat return for a decent barometer and it should be a little less because Horvat was younger and the possibility of the long term extension was there. He returned a decently high 1st, Ratu(ok prospect) and Cap dump beauvillier.

Let's look at the Horvat trade:
- 1st rounder
- Isles Top prospect in their system at the time
- A middle 6 forward.

So give me this for Nelson -
1st Rounder
Top 5 prospect
and a mid-foward.

Love the horvat comparison as if he is comparable to Nelson at this point. Horvat was 6 years younger when traded and having a massive season. Nelson is not having that type of season and is much older. His stats are down. I suspect he will get a 1st and a B level prospect. Not top prospect.

Raty was pretty decently valued at the time. Was seen as “falling” to us and had a great post-draft season. Knock on him was that he was the top prospect in a very shallow system (thanks Lou).

Horvat had 55 in 49 games at the time of the trade, so was a markedly better player.
 
It doesn’t make any sense for the avs to trade Ritchie, especially having just dealt rantanen. I think they would be outbid for Nelson, probably makes sense to go for someone else

It would look like some individuals simply have no idea about deadline value.

Acting like retaining salary is some big impact to value... We just saw Chicago retain 50% on Rantanen's contract for roughly the 120th pick in this years draft :laugh:
