2C or not 2C?

It's kind of funny how Cozens gets brought up as a when he's on pace for 42 points, and Byfields pacing for 48 points meanwhile in Dach's final 23 games paced for 46 points.

For the record I'm not against going after either of those guys, but be real they are projects/gambles in much the same way keeping Dach and hoping for the best is would be.

I just don’t see how we get it done. Overpay? Sure. But Bennet? Does he even get to free agency and can you bet 7 years on him? RFAs? Sebastian Aho says Hi. Does anyone trade a quality center in his 20s? Even for 3 first round picks (ours, Calgary’s and the one coming for Evans and Armia)?

The Prince of Denmark and I would love some optimism. Neither Rosencrantz nor Guildenstern can play down the middle.

It really is... :laugh: Just looking at the list it's not gonna be easy.

I'd love to get as good a center as possible - another number one. Having two on the same team would be incredible. But apart from Crosby - who is likely not moving - I can't think of anyone.

Another option would be to try Demidov at center. That's still the dream. If he could handle center and we have him and Suzuki? That'd be incredible and solve a lot of problems.

We gave away 3 1st, 2 2nd and a 3rd round picks for bottom 6 players in Dvorak, Dach and Newhook.
I wonder which one player we could have obtained with all those picks.

Best way to obtain a top center is probably to get lucky like the Suzuki trade.

If Crosby wants to leave Pens to play for the Habs, I dont think the tag price will be that expensive, the guy is 38 yrs old, our 2 1st rounders + some B prospects should get the job done.

I wouldn’t mind Malkin but at 40 years old, just had the worst season of his career and on his last year of his contract I wouldn’t do much more than what Florida gave for Marchand, so a 2nd round pick and B prospect.
 
JT Miller would add something missing on this team, big physical center that plays with tenacity and attitude. Sign Alex Tuch in 2026 and you have

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Tuch-Miller-Demidov

Take Thompson is also someone I would look at.

Yeah, at 10min a night in very sheltered deployment.

If you think Matheson, Newhook and Dvorak are frustrating, scary to think how many flames you'd shoot their way when playing 15+min a night against tough matchups : 😬

Doing that package for a few years solution at a time when the habs won't be cup contender types is kind of dumb. Now if you get a legit 2C in their mid 20s on a long term deal, you're probably gonna have to give up a package similar to what theyre suggesting

If you are young, I have patience if I see a future - which I do for Beck/Kap.

Matheson I can't stand...it is true. I'd rather a vanilla player than someone that gives away the puck every 2nd touch of it.
Dvo can't show up for the last 20% of year and make me forget his atrocious 4 year tenure.
Newhook is a 3rd line winger but I can't close my eyes and pretend he is a 2C.

So Cole and Newhook are "old"?

I mean, no stress, everyone has their own reference points.

But you may have to "close your eyes to pretend" Kapanen is a 3C, if that's easier to do for a 22 year old than a 24 year old, so be it.

I never mentioned Cole.
Newhook is not old but he is what he is until he proves different - a 3rd line winger.
Does not have vision to be a C, and does not have finishing ability to be in top 6.

Sure about Newhook. But what are Kapanen or Beck right now "until they prove different"?

Newhook very much was a "3rd liner" as far as ice time/usage goes.

You want to see Kapanen and Beck as 3C & 4C.

My simple comment was that given how angry and frustrated you appear to get over the performances of the U25 incumbents because they don't perform as well as you expect, the younger, less experienced and less NHL effective Kapanen & Beck thrust into those roles and minutes may well exacerbate your frustrations... Flame on 🔥

Do Cozens and Byfield get to be rated by their best 23 game span?

Or even a more simple question, does Dach play remotely similar to Byfield or Cozens?

45-50 point is good #2C production. 70+ points 2c don’t exist unless you’re the Penguins or Oilers and luck on draft pick.
