But Crosby only has about four or five years left. He’s a diminishing asset. If they’re going to cash in, now is the time.

Plus it just so happens to be the Makenna year. They could tank hard for that while at the same time loading up on picks.

If I’m Pittsburgh that’s what I’d do. It’s time to blow it up over there.

Crosby is an intelligent man. He knows Pittsburgh will never be competitive while he still plays.

He also knows he can help the franchise a lot by doing them that favor. I'm pretty sure management would love to be able to trade him to get a proper package and start most needed rebuild. But they won't ask him. It will comes from him.

To that poster who talked about going bankrupt if Crosby goes, well, whatever he decides to stay or accept a trade, this is a phase the organization will have to pass through anyways. Crosby is not eternal. There is a way to do it properly as a franchise. Just say Crosby came to them and told them it is the best way to assure a successful future to this franchise.

Why pay 11.6M for EP40 who is a batshit mess right now?

I think we should be looking for number 1 centerman if possible. I'd rather pay a premium and get somebody back who we can rely on should Suzuki go down. Obviously not many of these guys are available but we've got a lot to trade with. It'd be so nice to have a 1A, 1B option.

Forget Crosby. It's not going to happen. Ditto for Bennett, Barzal and all the other star centermen that posters around here seem to think are one phone call away from Montreal. New flash: they're not coming.

Habs should set their sites a lot lower. Someone like Trent Frederic: a big LH centerman who just turned 27 would be a realistic target. UFA at the end of the season. Plays a heavy game, has some offense even if he may never fulfill the potential the Bruins saw in him when they made him their 1st round pick.

Failing that, Kerfoot on a 2 or 3 year deal could step in and be an immediate upgrade on Dvorak, and buy the Habs some time while they wait for Kapanen, Hage and whatnot.
