Drew Doughty and Ryan Suter

Had no idea both were playing this much.

I know Ryan Suter did last year but with Brodin you'd think he could get a few less minutes.

Just amazing both play almost half a game.

Not dissing other #1 D's like Karlson at 27 or anything.

But these 2 defenseman are just work horses

I don't know if it's the workload or a hangover from the Mumps, but Suter hasn't been nearly as good since he came back from illness as he was in the previous year and a half. Yeo is overworking him.

Both of them would be much better if they didn't play so much

Karlsson got so, so much better once his minutes were brought down

Can you imagine what PK could do if he played close to 30 minutes and the powerplay was working?

Interesting fact regarding Karlsson, he was playing somewhere between 28-30 with Maclean this season, after the firing Cameron bumped him down to 26-27 minutes a game and his productivity has went up. Sometimes too much minutes can hurt players.

Playing more minutes isn't necessarily a good thing. PK has been playing better lately so whatever TOI he gets now is fine by me.

Maybe less? Maybe more prone to miscues or injury?
Yeah, no. That's very unlikely, I prefer him to play his usual 20-25 minutes but if there's a guys who should play close to 30 minutes it's him.

Would probably make him worse to play that much.

I agree. And this is coming from a guy who absolutely loves the player.

I actually think it should be brought down to 25, but that's only possible if the Habs acquire a capable top4 before the deadline.

No player should play 30 minutes

If a player is playing 30 minutes then something is wrong with the rest of the team

Sutter has said he doesn't like playing Doughty that much.
Doughty says he loves playing that much.
But it is all about losing the second pairing D man for what has been most of the season.

brian campbell played around 30 min every game for a few years and it really hurt him

in 82 games, thats like... an extra 7-8 hours? if u play 30 instead of 26-27

My thoughts as well. Just means the other 4 dman aren't that good.

not necessarily, some players skate so well that it doesnt really affect them

he played much worse in the playoffs vs NY after he played 30 minutes a night vs Boston (and owned them), that being said playoff games are much more physically taxing aswell.

Subban will soon join them. Played 31:18 min vs the Flyers and has a current streak of 11 consecutive games with 25+ min.
And he has been playing amazing during that stretch so it's not a problem for him.

Scandella and Brodin have both been better than Suter this season imo. Right now Suter is playing the worst of Wild's top4. Yeo has to limit Suter's minutes but it's hard because Suter himself wants to play that much.

I think for almost every top defenseman, you start getting diminishing returns over about about 25 minutes. If your options are limited maybe that's still the way to go, but it's definitely not ideal. Neither of these guys look their best this year, especially Suter. In Suter's case I understand it less. LA's backend took considerable hits.

Kudos to these guys for doing what's asked, but others could also play those minutes and see their games suffer a bit for it the same way.
