It’s not the logic. It’s the…

Like if I’m gonna say anything iffy about this pick, it’s gonna be that he didn’t feel like he could earn the icetime at a higher level of competition. He went an easier route.

I don’t care necessarily. I love the pick and happy we got him. I’m not getting the Colborne vibes that others have stated.

But I don’t LOVE that one aspect, personally.
I understand that. He also did say that he was initially planning on going to the USHL, but got the offer to go to BC. So he's not afraid of going to play against tougher competition.

I get the question.

Issue is, being drafted by Owen Sound, he was likely looking at a year in Junior B. Owen Sound typically does not play 16 year old players.

Going to St Andrew's was a step up.

Guy looks like a create-a-player from NHL out there on the ice. Just freakin massive

One of the highlights posted here vs Culver he had a really Tage Thompson esque goal. I’m excited to see him play at BC maybe I’ll catch a game in person this year.

Definitely won’t be hard to track on the ice

Why are some people calling this a reach. It isn't. Not at 25.
Heres where different reports had him ranked per eliteprospects.com:

Elite Prospects - 32nd
TSN (McKenzie/Button) - 36th and 69th
The Hockey News (Ferrari/Kennedy) - 51st and 22nd
McKeen - 44th
Flo Hockey - 32nd
FC Hockey - 135th
Daily Faceoff - 29th
NHL Central Scouting - 23rd (NA skaters, not overall)
HPR - 41st
Draft Prospects Hockey - 41st
Sportsnet (Consentino/Bukala) - 30th and 45th
Recruit Scouting - 87th
Dobber Prospects - 55th

A couple projected him late first but the overall consensus seemed to be 2nd/3rd round

Don’t mind this. Swing for the fences pick at 25. What I hate is the Ullmark trade hasn’t provided cap space nor a player who will contribute until the rest of the team is 30-32+. What’s the plan?

Let’s see what free agency has to offer. As of now I’m not loving Sweeney’s plan or lack there of.

Bold - tells me draft is just a question of appreciation.... that is why IMO, draft is the selection of a prospect, a promise. When I read some wanting some establish player for a promise, it make me thinking.......

This may be true but their rankings are different than projections of where they would be drafted, every recent mock draft I could see last night had him in the 25-30 range, specifically either Bruins or Rangers

Yup. Every mock draft and projection I saw had him late first early early 2nd. Not a reach by any stretch.

This is exactly the type of pick you go for with 25thOA. Boom bust type kid. No issue with the pick.

The weaker the draft, the less that matters. From #25 to #50 in this draft I'll be shocked if we see much consistency in seeing that the front half hit more than the back. It's gonna be darts all over that range.

The commentary is in French but I found this shift-by-shift video of his two USHL games from this past season. No points but he generates a few good scoring chances & makes a couple nice passes -- but it's difficult to draw any conclusions from just two games.

PS: It probably doesn't mean much but he played exclusively RW in the two games.

I didn't realize it until now but he was teammates with Pelosi and Hendrickson for those two USHL games. He played against Groenewold in one of them -- so at least he'll see some familiar faces at dev camp (assuming they're all there).

Makes you wonder if the trade could have been Kastelic and the Sens 39th pick for Ullmark without the Bruins having to take on Korpisalo’s negative value contract to buy a “1st rounder” and they could have ended up with Letourneau anyway with the 39th pick.

I doubt he drops that low. It wasn’t a great draft year, so teams are throwing darts in that area.

I'd say way less than 5% chance he is available at 39. 50% chance he goes elsewhere in the first
