A lot of those touristy places only stay in business because of the money they make during October. Anyone who visits Salem should go to the Peabody-Essex museum. It’s excellent.
I loved living there. It’s kind of a small version of a big city. Just stay away during the month of October, it’s insane.
I lived in Beverly for a few years. Spot in about October. Ew.
I used to walk across the bridge to a little bar and get lobster. They would steam 2 one pounders for like $13. I’m pretty sure the person who owned the bar had a lobster boat right in the bay.
I miss the music scene I was involved in too.

Beverly is pretty nice. There is (or was) a place there that had reasonably decent cheesesteaks and hoagies. They called them something else of course, but they weren't bad at all. I lived in the big apartment complex in Salem that's right across that bridge. Used to ride my bike up to Gloucester and back. The North Shore is really nice.

I think Drysdale willl get his chances, when he returns. But his leash will be short...if he cannot earn his spot on the starting roster, there is no downside for the Flyers to scratch or demote him. He is quite simply next year's version of Frost this year...demonstrate what you can do, and we'll decide if you are more valuable as trade bait, or a cost- and term-controlled next contract...or nothing.

I went to Salem around July 4th a handful of years ago — stopover from Boston to Portland — and I had to steer my family away from the tourist trap witch stuff (mostly succeeded). I enjoyed visiting the empty Salem Customs House (chatting up a bored NPS worker) and the House of the Seven Gables, having read Hawthorne. The main drag is what it is, but it got quaint a pretty short walk away. I very much liked that part.
We did a lot of the touristy stuff. I'd never been there, and Kitten wanted to hit a bunch of things she did when she went there quite a few years ago. Some I'd never do again, but there was some informative things I wasn't expecting. House of the Seven Gables was a nice bit of history. I enjoyed that.

Yes, the Essex museum is legit. That was nice. There's a pirate museum we wanted to do which was closed, but almost across the street was another one. The place seemed newer, and the whole museum was about a particular shipwreck found off Cape Cod. Just about everything they had on display was from that wreck including cannons.

One thing we totally didn't plan for or have a clue about was that apparently, the town starts their "Santa through the streets on a firetruck" with Santa getting taken down from the roof of our hotel by the rescue ladder lol.

He has to go on waivers to get demoted. It's not happening.

On the other hand, who is claiming him?

A 22 year old RHD former #6 overall at $2.3M and an RFA in two years? Yeah, he'd get claimed.

I don't think he's very good at the moment, but I definitely think he can be. Might take him another 5-7 years to reach his full potential, but as along as he's not counted on to be a top defenseman right now, I don't see the rush. Let him develop.

I'd have him on the 3rd pairing with Z or Seeler.

Which is where he is, as Andrae - Risto have locked down the second pair for now.

Only a horrible team would commit to him based on what was thought of him at the draft. Even then, all of them have better prospects already. The guy is irreparably broken, and the Flyers insisting on squashing his better traits to try and emphasize his worst traits is furthering that damage. He needed to show a single sign of improvement to be at risk of being desired by anyone else. He's an anchor.

He's only played one full season so far. Injuries probably ruined his confidence, but he's only 22. He's not completely hopeless. Unless he keeps getting injured, of course.

That's the other thing; it's hard to envision these injuries suddenly stopping. And that's a hurdle on top of everything else in his career up to now, it's hard to fix your game when you can't play the game

It seems that some people don't have the body to play professional sports and maybe he's one of them. But for now I see no harm in keeping him around and hope for a turnaround.
You could argue that he's blocking another player, but it's not like our pool of defensemen is filled with elite prospects.

They could of had an elite defense prospect but, you know, reasons

They might have taken him just because he plays with Bonk and they'd have penciled them in as a pair together for the next decade.

My neighbour watches a lot of Knights games for some reason and had been pumping Dickinson's tires for two years before the draft. He kept telling me the Flyers should take him, even if it was first overall. :amazed:

I've only seen a handful of highlights, so I'm in no place to comment on him, but it is hilarious that he's lapping Bonk in points this season.

I do suspect he was on their radar. Whether or not they still would have traded down for Luchanko, though, if Dickinson was still on the board....

Nothing deadhead does is without an ulterior motive. That motive is to shit on Zeev Buium (because the Flyers passed on him) and make the Flyers out to be geniuses who clearly targeted the 1.8 PPG Dickinson (who went one pick sooner, so we’ll never know). Never mind Buium was one of four NCAA defensemen this century to hit 50 points. I imagine the Flyers ranked him higher too for superficial reasons, but that’s not what he’s suggesting.

I watched Dickinson a lot last year. I thought he was a top pair potential guy and the 2/3 D in the class, but I also didn’t find him overly creative and a bit of a chucker. He’s almost leading the OHL in shots, and I can imagine his ice time is ridiculous. The London Knights Special. It’s a monster start, but I haven’t watched a London game, and my prior evaluation of him (despite point/game+ last year) as not high-end offensively or my ideal PP1 QB I still have written down in pencil.

hard to figure out what your intention is. blame the player, blame the team, or blame someone else!

All of the above. It doesn't have to be limited to one thing.

The player cannot remain healthy. It's not like he means to be injured, but that's a flaw that seems inherent to him, though it's the team's bad choice to think otherwise. The team made a mistake going after him, and their development processes are also highly corrosive to players of his archetype so it's hard to figure out why they'd even want him since they always try to develop these guys into something else entirely; and he spent years playing under Dallas Eakins, who is worse than AV on all fronts and leaves dmen isolated and brutalized in every game, hardly an environment where a young player rushed to the show is going to be able to figure out what works.
