Challenge couldve gone either way.

But the bottom line is that was the second rush where Staal went to the trailer letting the lead forward go to the front of the net uncontested. He needs to stay with the lead forward more and let his forward backcheck toward the trailer.

They have been brutal in front of their own net...if they are even there to defend it.

Have to disagree with that. There was nobody to pick up the puck carrier. If Staal retreats its a free pass to center slot.

Honestly I like how thorough the rule is. It's hard to memorize the entire thing, but I don't see many ways to improve it.

I never even knew the refs had the discretion of deciding whether a goalie had a chance to save it or not.

I'm not sure if I would of written Hank off in that spot, but if the wording is in there for them to make that call then at least it makes sense.

This is wrong. Hayes was nearby. You never vacate the front of net/center lane. If you watch the replay, Hayes is coming across to challenge the shooter. Staal couldve even backed up a bit but not all the way to buy some more time for Hayes while not letting the trailer getting a clean look at the net. Bad defense
