Even so, having a guy stapled to the first line and potting 80-90 points is a pretty good problem to have.

Resources for acquisition is one thing. But I'd be thrilled to have the player.
Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love to have him. If we are investing that much cap, however, I would ideally like to use it to button up the center situation.

Center situation is addressed for the foreseeable future. Larkin, Danielson and kasper down the middle. Before then a stop gap is needed, so go after a guy like brock Nelson in FA and give him 6 x 3. Keep it short term and we are fine. There’s nobody we can get that’s better than Larkin that’s available.

I am a long-time, massive Danielson supporter, but even I will admit that he is not guaranteed to be an above average 2C in the NHL. To say the center situation is addressed for the foreseeable future is presumptuous to say the least.

For the record this is a need better addressed in the offseason. The deadline center market is Kate Moss in a mountain of blow skinny.

Dude at this point, his absolute CEILING is average 2nd line C. Compher/Copp type 3rd line C is the most realistic now.

It’s definitely premature to lock Danielson in as a long term cup contending line driving top 6 center.

On the other hand he is a lock to play some center in the NHL, imo. TBD how impactful he will be but he has all of the characteristics to at least hold down a bottom 6 role.

And within the context of acquiring Rantanen, I don’t think it’s a stretch to see those two playing well as a duo. No guarantees obviously but on paper it seems like a good fit.

I like the odds of a team moving forward with Larkin & Ray holding down 1 line. Rantanen and Kasper and/or Danielson on another. That’s two lines that would be very hard to play against. With Seider and Ed holding down two separate pairings I believe that is a foundation that can contend.
