Why? So they can double down the following season on a bad strategy?

Anyone confident in the Tigers to do... anything? They're the new Oakland A's. Good enough for attention but won't do what it takes to win with contract lengths... etc. real dedications to money/players.

Back to the Wings. Snore-fest. Players on the team do control their own fates either way(trades or no trades). I legit don't care about a 4th round pick. We needed something to get better in this TDL not just lurk around looking to leech value in a deal like this.

Telling me we've chatted with Seattle and they've got nothing at all we'd like back at a reasonable price...
" ok... " :ha:
Dude wtf are you talking about. They're winning the AL central this year. And we got Flaherty back.

This retention of salary is the same focus we have during FA and other key periods - always some left field nonsense for a meaningless head scratch. Walman for future considerations, signing a fifth string goalie, Holl for laughable $$ - what exactly is this leadership even doing? Their responses to key deadlines has the same focus the team does on big games - they lay goose eggs.

We got a 4th RD pick for Kyle Aucoin, who will probably never play in the NHL, and some minimal cap space. It's a good move. Gives us another asset to use Friday.

We still have something like 9.5M in deadline cap space. Even after adding Gourde 1.29M. Lost 297k in money. Who cares. Even Chris Ilitch won't care! :D

Got a 4th.

Fischer waived and that makes more cap room than Mazur ELC when promoted up.

People just won't get it, any of these things and whine when they don't understand the math and the moves.

What do you propose they do?

Do you think the wings should have paid 2 firsts and a 2nd for bjorkstrand and gourde?

So many holes for this team to fill and nobody will make them a contender not even a Marner or Rantenen. Why pay big rental prices now instead of buying them in the offseason for cash only?

I don't see a sell off. The team has earned a shot to get in. However, paying huge sums for mor depth talent would be very unwise IMO.

Any big deal requires a long term extension. I don't see much happening this week.

I didn't say that - there are meaty big names on the market that we in the forum talk to death about...Bowen Byram, Scott Laughton, Dylan Couzens and Carson Soucy or moving worthless pieces like Tarasenko, Holl, or Veleno and when it comes down to it SY and team are focused on the obscure scenery - its really remarkable. They did lose Fischer and gain a worthless 4th so I guess there is that.

The other funny thing is how hard they work to send players down to GR to save cap space between each break only to use it in the acquisition of some 4th rounder that will likely never see the NHL.

So much this. Either use the space to actually improve the team...

...or be honest that you're just being cheap and sitting on your hands for at least another year, so I can officially tune out until July 1.

Yzerman bought a 4th round draft pick for $1.2 million dollars, none of which was your money. None of which was going to be used on a roster player. Yzerman still has over $12 million dollars to play with at TDL.

Why do you hate that Yzerman purchased a draft pick?

I don't care at all that the Red Wings have extra money unless they use it.

Bah Ding!

Also made a rival contender much better. I didn't expect moves; I just don't buy that moves can't be made. I legitimately think they're not trying hard to make one.

At this point if they don’t add then they better just tank the rest of the season, between the injuries, Larkin and Raymond disappearing, and the fiasco at the stadium series we have gotten pretty screwed the past couple weeks. Unless there’s changes I just don’t think these guys have gas for the finish line.

Asset to use on Friday?

Pal- Yzerman isn't doing anything. Have you not come across his quotes and quotes by Todd to confirm Yzerman is standing pat.

Once again, here we are. Crickets. Ill be shocked if Yzerman does anything. He should, seeing that losing Copp and Ras ( might be back tomorrow) was a HUGE blow to the team depth. I don't give a flying toots about points when it comes to Copp. If you can't see his presence missed the last few games, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yzerman NEEDS to replace Copp with a decent 3rd line C and get someone to also to cover for Ras, as he is injury prone every year during this time of year. Yzerman also needs 1/2 more D-man, as again, this D core isn't playoff material outside Ed and Mo.

Wings don't have enough assets to acquire all needed items to make a run, and why CRICKETS from this organization will be heavy sounding come Friday.

AMEN!!!

Esp w/ the injuries to our bottom 6. Calling up Mazur aint it

It doesn't matter in a negative way that TB is better because of this. It might actually help our chances of making the playoffs, as the teams who are in the WC race, have more games against TB than us.

Red Wings fans are IMPATIENT to lose in the first round!!!
You're right. It's much better to just sit patiently doing nothing for another 2-3 years. Really, we should stop doing game day threads altogether and just rename the team Grand Rapids East, because wins and losses don't count and development of the kids is all that matters. :sarcasm:

I would LOVE to get blown out in the 1st round, just to be able to experience playoff hockey again. We’re breaking record with our miss streak. Many clubs have gone through full tear down rebuilds and are good teams again AFTER we started ours. Buffalo is probably the only exception here.

While lottery luck plays a part, most of this lies with Steve.

You're suggesting that I'm making some sort of argument against your prevailing opinion? Just noting that wings fans are getting a bit emotional out here, and your response is consistent with that.

As someone said earlier, do even the hardest core rebuild fans think once all the kids are ready to make an impact, that they're magically gonna just breeze past the 1st round?

They're going to get their shit pushed in, whenever they make the playoffs. It's not about making a deep run, its about getting experience, so they're better suited going forward.
