I think we're destined to sell and finish outside a playoff spot in the 12 to 15 draft slot and then sign 2 or 3 veteran UFAs in July to 2-3 year deals
12 to 15th pick in the draft.... just great

I wanted a last top 10 pick before we turned things around next season cause I didn't anticipate we'd turn things around but I refuse to give up at this point and pick mid teens again

Let's hope buff or canucks make a panic move by friday

No, they are saying he is not the answer to replace Lyon or Talbot this season.
Ohhhhh ... unless we have old hasek making 40 saves every night we'll need more than just goaltending to turn this around

If we're not going to make big moves just give tuomisto or wallinder a crack to kick out holl... make room for a danielson or mazur

We got to this point cause of the kids we might as well keep going with them if we wont trade for big players

Tarasenko compher etc.. are not the answer and neither is cossa at this point

All that being said ifffff we're moving on from Lyon I'd have zero problems in dealing for a 2nd if we can and going Talbot cossa final 20 and let cossa get In some games to prepare for next season

only if there is injury Cossa will move up. Yzerman , before trade deadline, should get power forward, could be Cozens and top four physical defansman, could be Gudas.

I don't have deal fever. I'm just consistent about still hating the handful of lousy free agents that I hated when they were signed.

Justin Holl never should have become a Red Wing. He blows and provides nothing worthwhile. Same for Petry. I also hated both the Copp and Compher signings, but I can at least understand the premium of the position and thereby the scarcity of anybody who's any good at being a center. (In fairness, Copp has provided some useful defensive play, even if he's usually where offense goes to die.)

On the blue line Yzerman found some of the most overcooked plugs in the league, rather than getting players that had anything left in the tank. So while a bigger trade for a long term fit would certainly be preferable, it's a long list of rentals that would improve the very low bar that Detroit has set for their depth on defense.
You are literally barking for trades for rentals to chase 5 games of playoff hockey because you can't stand Justin Holl. Don't tell me you don't have deal fever. You absolutely do. You just want to change the current composition of the roster for your immediate gratification with little regard for the future. This is the behavior of an addict who can't see past their next fix.

If your argument is that you want Yzerman to be more active in the trade market because the UFA market has proven to be too thin, why the hell are you barking for a trade at a time when there are only six or seven teams selling players? In my judgment the better use of the assets you want to part with, is to trade them after the season when you have more potential partners who aren't constrained by the cap. I absolutely want to be more active in the trade market, but a bad trade is just as frustrating (if not more) than a shitty UFA signing.

Lastly, it is funny how Copp gets injured and the team purportedly goes to shit, yet people continue to complain about his signing.

Stand pat or sell. It doesn't matter how many years Yzerman has been here or how many years we've missed the playoffs. We have to do what's best for now and the future. I would only buy if we get a godfather offer from someone.Making the playoffs is cool but making a future CUP CONTENDER is the goal. I'm not willing to mortgage the future to squeak in. That's exactly what Holland did and why we got into this hole in the first place. Buying aging vets and selling prospects for a playoff streak. Coupled with terrible contracts.

I like Copp. I thought he was a little overpaid for his production, but with Cap going up he really isn’t anymore + he does a tun of little things that simply go unnoticed by fans. They really miss him right now

I have been the most critical of Copp and still believe he is overpaid. That being said they clearly miss him.

I think its time to be a bit aggressive. We lack a top 4 dman, top 6 center, and a competent 4th line.

I think the 4th line issue could be addressed pretty quickly by calling up Shine and Mazur. This teams plays a lot better when our 4th line actually does something besides eat time. Fisher and Motte have both been massive disappoints. Fisher's physicality from last year has disappeared and neither he nor Motte have been good on the PK. I would not mind trying to deal for a 4th line center that can win a faceoff. We really lack faceoff winners now that Copp is done for the season. The 4th line needs to be competent defensively but they also need to bring energy and be a change of pace line. This could be a rental if need be.

Top 4 dman. I love the young guys but I really think we need a good vet in that top 4. Preferably one that can clear the net on the PP and let Seider wander. Again we are much better team when our dman can jump into the rush. Seider should be that guy on the 1st pair. This is where our pro-scouting needs to be better, because I don't think we need an elite dman just one that can compliment Seider. This might be a UFA off season get, but it needs to be addressed.

Top 6 C I think is the most critical thing we lack. Larkin is a fine number one but his is already 28 and a lot of his game is predicated on skating. He's also a bit injury prone. He plays through a lot but come March every year he seems to have a nagging injury that either severely takes him off his game or takes him fully out of the lineup. If we think our contender time isn't for say another 3-5 years that likely puts us outside his #1 NHL center window. So we either need to move up that window or find someone that can that #1 center as he winds down to more of a complimentary player. I would deal just about anything to land said player besides Seider, Ed, Larkin, and Ray. #1 pick (s), Kasper, Danielson, ASP, MBN, Buch, one of Cossa/Augustine etc. I don't want to give them up this is the one thing I could see absolutely derailing our ability to contend.

Deal/buyout Tank. Remove Holl (I'd like to see Tuo get a shot). Call up Shine/ Mazur. Fisher and Motte can disappear. Veleno can fill in as a 4th line center, but I'd prefer to get someone better defensively and at faceoffs.

If you can deal any of Kane, Lyon, Ras, and maybe even DBC to have the needed assets to acquire a bit time center, I'd really consider it. It might not be a well received move this year by the team, might not even get us into the playoffs, but if its what we need to do to get that long term center asset you do it.

As for Copp. I think more people have issue with his contract than the actual player. He's a good defensive faceoff guy. He just should never see the top 6. As a shutdown 3rd/4th line guy he's solid, and does provide some valuable skills. He's just overpaid in that role (although as noted above that will be less as the cap expands).

Top 4 defensemen and Top 6 center sound like offseason moves. You could improve the 4th line between now and the end of the week if you wanted to though. The top 6 center will continue to be a white whale for a while I suspect. There just aren't a ton of them and teams don't hand them out like candy.

Wonder if we can get carlo off boston for like a 2nd wallinder veleno package

If asp makes it next year we'd look pretty much Set at d ,and hed obviously help us now

Chiarot seider
Edvinsson pellika
Johansson carlo

So..... is it Compher we all hate, then? Since he can't step up and do what Copp can do?
Compher has been pretty bad this year. Copp was pretty bad last year. Who will be pretty bad next year? Who can say. Either way we have an aging 3C playing 2C and only successfully sometimes. Neither is very productive but either can be good defensively. When they're good defensively they can be an only slightly bad 2C- which is great for this team.

Hopefully whatever law of conservation that forces Compher to be bad whenever Copp is good works for us now. With Copp out hurt, Compher should be at his peak.
