Fun Fact: Over his last 244 game (3.3 seasons) Rasmussen has scored 44 goals - an 15 goal/82 game rate. He accomplished that while spending most of his time in a shutdown role with a little bit of pp2 time.

His 5on5 per60 production over this same period actually aligns to a low end top 6 player/good 3rd liner. For context, 204 guys "play a top 6 role":

• Points/60 is 1.58 which is 258th in the league.
• Goals/60 is 0.72 which is 200th in the league

Alright, top 6 is barely a technicality on the goals/60 angle but that som'bitch is underrated around these parts.

Define real deal, if you are expecting a true 1C center from him, that would be a real long shot, not saying it can't happen...but I think he'll be a good player for quite a few seasons.

I think he has a real decent shot playing as a middle 6 forward in his prime years, I watched play a few times at the midget level (tournaments) when I lived out west, I am probably more bullish on him than most fans, but the kid has game.

I have seen literally hundreds of kids like him over the years that were real good hockey players, but so many of them never get the size they needed to play in the big leagues.

When I watched him, he played shoulder first hockey and showed a great off puck game and had offensive skills too, just a good player that you notice when he is on the ice for all the right reasons.

Any pick after round 3 that makes it to the NHL and plays more than 300 games in the NHL is a win.

According to Petes, when the wings signed him last spring he was playing around 190 pounds as an 18 year old, so if he tips the scales around 205/210 (maybe more) by the time he hits the age of 23/24 I think he will be a real handful.

Given the slow roasting and projected timelines SY has laid out for the Griffs graduates, he probably won't be a FT wing until 2027/28 (maybe late in the 26/27 season, but you never know), I think he'll be a pleasant late round gem.

Whether he has technically scored 15 goals every single season or not, he gives you a goal every 4-5 games he plays. When he is healthy, which is most of the time, that translates to 15 5on5 goals/season from your defensive 3rd liner. In the context of "Does Rasmussen have value across the league," the answer is, absolutely.

Ill also point back to him scoring the 204th most 5on5 Goals/60 over a large sample size of 3+ seasons as something he has actually done. In a pool of more than 750 guys that puts Rasmussen in the top 25%. So again, In the context of "Does Rasmussen have value across the league," the answer is, absolutely.

He's had injuries so he missed large chunks of the past 2 seasons. Averaged over 82 game seasons it would be 18 goals.

Rasmussen is pretty far down the list of players that I would want to see gone. Off the top of my head there's Copp, Petry, Holl, Veleno, Compher, Kane, Gustafsson, Chiarot.

The only reason I'd be open to moving Rasmussen before the above players is that most of those players have negative value (except maybe Kane based on reputation), whereas Rasmussen could potentially bring back something of value.

But he is a useful and versatile player, particularly because he's shown he can be reasonably productive with the little opportunity he's given.

I wasn't taking any position on it. Just pointing out how that average goals figure came about.

That said, he is a useful player in his role. The only reason I'd be in favour of moving him is if there was good value in the return.

This is the biggest and most reasonable criticism of Rasmussen IMO. And it is puzzling because he has shown glimpses of aggressiveness and physicality but it never seems to stick. My take is that it's something that's been repeated to him ad nauseum by his coaches over the years, who were all understandably salivating at the physical potential, so he's tried to incorporate it but it's just not something that comes naturally to him. Brings to mind the quote from Mark Twain: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". Rasmussen clearly just doesn't have that dog in him, which is a shame because he's obviously got the frame for it. He's the polar opposite of a guy like Marchand, in that sense.

I think it'd help if we put some guys around him that embraced that play, and had a coach who pushed it. When we signed Watson, I was hoping he'd be on the Wings this year and that we'd have went after Clutterbuck and deBrusk. Really look forward to Nygaard just for this.

I think that's the #1 reason for why we need a new coach today.. the culture change...

We will have 17-18 mil next season and that's not factoring in the cap increase which could be another 5 mil. No big contracts this time around, though I hope they get Ed done ASAP and not after the 25-26 season.

ah ya wouldnt be worst thing, esp. if he still trying at that point. even tho he has been a bust he works decently hard most nights i think. he'll have more to play for as well next yr ($).

Agreed. I would like to try and see if there are any takers for Copp or Compher. Those contracts suck and Nate should be ready next year.

Copp has actually been more useful defensively this season. Sacrilege, I know, but at least there's no illusion that Copp can honestly play 2C whereas Compher has been a straight up disappointment on both ends.

Copp sucks, it's just that Compher has sucked more this season. Both of them need a change of scenery, and I don't see that happening without 50% retention.
