I forget - I think Friedman on a pod from last year (?) - basically said around Kakko was that it isn't that he's isn't good, it was that feeling from the team was that he was "difficult to play with".

Specifically, he would often slow the pace of play down, and try to be methodical, maintain possession and look to set up plays slowly and carefully, while his line mates, whoever they put with him, wanted to play differently and more up-tempo, etc. and he just couldn't ever get in sync and guys just didn't like playing with him.

That stuck with me. If that's really the case: 1) he sounds like Patrick Kane (hah), which we already have a hard time accommodating and 2) what linemates could work best with that kind of player? Copp comes to mind honestly..

What chance has Berggern earned? He is Top 5 for % of shifts starting in the ozone, getting consistent PP usage and has generated 6 points. His most common linemates are Kasper and Tarasenko

Dude hasn't earned shit.
Wings are also playing like shit, if i were coach i would try all kinds of changes. For example Berggren with Larkin and Ray. I don't think that Berggren has much future in Detroit but someone might want to give him a chance.

This actually seems like an Yzerman move....

What a horrible trade for the Wings.

To your point, he is not dressing tonight.

I seem to believe his attitude has been an issue for longer than just this season, but I could be misremembering that.

And, yes, bringing a bad element into the locker room can have a lasting impact that goes far beyond the offending player and even last after that player is gone. I would not at all view "problem" players with a, "well, if it doesn't work out, oh well" attitude. To be clear, I'm not saying that Kakko is a known locker room cancer, but it's probably a situation the Wings would want to do their due diligence with and not just fly by the seat of their pants.
Well yeah, trading a team guy for a wanker who would be a distraction would obviously be sub-optimal. From a talent standpoint though, I'm being nonchalant about them trading for someone who is equally irrelevant.

Edit: moot point since he got shipped to Seattle.

Lmfao kakko to seattle for borgen a 3rd and a 6th ... yzerman seriously couldnt have matched that???

Dont get this yzerfail plan. Seems hes just content waiting till our dragged picks are ready. Kakko would have been a nice player to add on the 3rd line for no cost really

Lalonde probably would have benched him

Maybe they took the option to send him to the west. We don't know what's going on.

Nothing more annoying than calling out every trade or move and saying "we should've done that!"

You know they’d have taken an equivalent offer from us?

Id argue Nothing more annoying than doing nothing but signing overpriced bottom 6 guys and bottom pair dmen to longterm deals

Unfortunately Borgen would be our 3rd best defense so we wouldnt be trading him. We have Ed and then who? They may have not wanted a forward, our anyone from us, or like others said to send him to an Eastern team. I will agree I wanted him as someone to watch as a reclamation project but thats more because I am more bored of some of the Wings players vs knowing about other teams underachievers.

I’d have loved to ship out Holl/Gustafsson/Petry + 3rd + 4th for Kakko.

NYR absolutely made the right call picking Seattle’s offer over our version of that trade.

Unless Steve was willing to upgrade the 3rd to a 2nd (and that still might not have been enough) he couldn’t have landed Kakko.

It’s a shame because I would have loved that move, but at the end of the day there is no sense in complaining about it because we couldn’t beat that offer without overpaying significantly.
