I don't deal Danielson unless we're getting a signed, nearly Larkin level center for him. Think Bo Horvat. Anything else, and why? We don't need another wing, and a lesser player is unlikely to be any great upgrade over what Danielson brings without the benefit of Danielson's ELC and future cost control.
The problem with moving Danielson is that he is largely what you are hoping to get in return (plus a bit more offense).

Yep, which is why I don't see a trade happening. It would have to be a pretty special situation for it, but if a team is deciding they want to rebuild and are looking to shed salary for futures, I figure that would be our opportunity.

I'm fine just riding it out with him, though, as I think he's going to be at least a good 2C. I don't watch a ton of non-wings hockey, but whenever I see this kid, and whenever I see people talking about him who do watch him, they love the guy.

At the same time, not every first round pick is going to hit. We have Seider, Ray, Ed and looks like Kasper from the recent drafts as good-great NHL level already, which is a very good success rate in short order, so there is a decent chance that one or more of Danielson, Cossa, or ASP don't pan out. Expecting them all to be awesome is setting up for major disappointment in my opinion. Would love it, but can't think of many scenarios for any team where a big string of 1sts all did great.

If we can get a 22-26 year old 1st or high 2nd line player with nice contract, I think we should look at it.

Even ignoring independent probability, this is a really bad idea. We desperately need centers. Let me type this really slow so that you can say it with me: C-E-N-T-E-R-S. Kasper playing OK does not change that fact. We absolutely need a center in return if we trade Danielson. A 1st or high 2nd line forward isn't enough. Why posters can't distinguish between centers and wingers on this board is beyond me. That player we receive needs to be a bona fide center. Not some fool like Cozens who needs to actually play on the wing to be effective. You win in this league from the blueline out and up the middle. If anyone is likely to bust out of ASP, Cossa or Danielson, it is Cossa or ASP.

Lastly, as always, just watch the prospects. In this day and age it isn't that hard.

There's so much overlap of the "we should rebuild the rebuild" crowd and "the rebuild is over, we need win now assets" is kind of shocking.

Remember this time last year when folks were on the "trade Kasper" wagon? Look how that ended up.

Biggest asset I personally would deal this deadline is our 1st, assuming it's in the 12-19 overall realm.

I agree, unless SY gets a deal that is a real steal, then let the Yutes develop, and see what we have for players, chips and trade bait.

Things are heading in the right direction, I think we have another season likely two possibly three before things get start getting real serious and bigger impact trades happen.

I know everyone is anxious, but things do take time but on the bright side, "go time" is getting closer.

From @Petes2424:

More interesting as the deadline approaches, is who’s going to possibly have their contract terminated over the next 2 weeks, so he can sign wherever he likes?

Hearing it’s becoming a legit option for Tarasenko in Detroit, after it looks like he nixed a deal to a contender.

He wants to return to Florida is the speculation, but he may not clear waivers is the problem, and Detroit doesn’t feel they have to retain.

So if he doesn’t change his mind and it’s Florida or staying in Detroit, good bet Detroit will just keep him for the rest of the season, and part ways this summer.

If the relationship has deteriorated because he’s now saying Florida or nothing, maybe they will put him through waivers. The problem with that is, it just doesn’t look good and Detroit’s going to be a legit destination over the next few years. So why deal with any reputation consequences, even if he is claimed by a contender not named Florida?

It’s a situation to keep an eye on.

Red Wings trade RHD Justin Holl, LHD William Wallinder, and their 1st round pick.

Penguins trade LHD Erik Karlsson(25%).

No rumors, just he looked good in the 4 nations. 2 years after this, I think he could be given a Quinn Hughes type role here playing the PP an be cherry picking 5on5 ice-time. Not the type that'll upgrade our PK necessarily. I think he'll get moved, and don't even mind if Red Wings aren't involved I just wonder how much he'll be traded for, I got to image he'll still command a 1st rounder plus? (idk).

Throw out something like this with the top pairs still eating up a ton of 5on5.

Ben Chiarot – Moritz Seider
Simon Edvinsson – Albert Johansson
Erik Gustafsson – Erik Karlsson

William Lagesson
Jeff Petry *IR*

Lotta lefties on the right side but they're good players, holes in most team's but Red Wings could throw out a top notch/Stanley cup quality PP unit(s).

Overall this is a great post and directionally correct. But I think it's a smart decision and a necessary message to the players to still be active now for smaller moves, at least to try to replace any dead weight with functional players if the price is reasonable.

For example, I can be patient for ASP while still trying to get an interim improvement over Holl (if the cost is not prohibitive to my long term plans).

Pass on Karlsson.

We dont need karlsson if pellika is going to be here soon. Rather get a dman that can play 2 way and not someone who's falling apart. My buddy's a pens fan and hes always hating on karlsson

Hard pass

I love ASP and wanted him before the draft but everyone slotting him into the top four already just needs to pump the brakes a little.

I think Karlsson would be a good mentor for ASP, I mean not defensively but you get the gist.

We dont need 2 similar players on the right side . We can pencil pellika for 3rd pair with ppl opportunities to ease him in

Karlsson at this point in his career with that cap hit is not needed

Oh nooowwwww some people see what I was clamoring and whining to you boys about lol

He was some good stuff to his game, but I honestly have no idea how he got 100pts.
Lol He got like 90 pts the year after... I think the guy is just trying to get away from vancouver at this point and not trying to show any sign of life at the 4 nations

Regardless of miller being there or not it seems he wants out. Cant blame him either if his teammates are saying they traded the wrong guy lol

I like Pettersson still, but he looks absolutely checked out and Idk why other than he'd really like out of Vancouver himself.
Why would he want to stay there when everyone basically doesnt like him lol ... I'd do the same man 4 nations is not the Olympics I told my friends I had zero interest in a bonus money grab 2 team tournament. Everyone knew it was canada and u.s final 2

Why would he show up if hes trying to get out of Vancouver? He shows up and Vancouver sees life they hang on to him... then when his contract kicks in they can just refuse to move him

On the flip side he has no control now unless he decides to be a prick and tells the new team he has zero interest going there and will request a trade in the off season lol

Maybe if we're lucky he pulls a debrincat and forces his way here and we send a 1st and scrubs and tell canucks shaddap and enjoy the cap space and what we give you ... wont happen anyways haha

On a side note guys lombardi is finally back for grand rapids ! Looks like I'll have to tune in

Why would we want to acquire a petulant child making 11+ that will willingly mail it in if he doesn't like some circumstances/elements of the team.

At one point I wanted Petey but this all paints him as a hard pass for me.

Enough with the wanting of Zegras. There isn't a more overrated player on HFWings than him. Do you really want a low compete former 60 pt player that badly? He got 60 pts, he also sucked at everything else and is low compete on top of that. Also, injury or not, he is on 40 pt pace this season while bringing nothing else to the table. I would legit rather have Fabbri back, then pay Zegras whatever overpay he will get on his next deal.

All for improving the Wings, but lets actually get someone good, not a player we have seen before, cough Mantha, cough AA.

A few here also wanted to pay a 1st to get current day Fowler.
No one wanted to pay a first for Fowler.

It's fun to sit and type messages calling him a child but if your were in his situation and everyone hated your guts at work and wanted you gone it would get to you at some point

I dont blame him if that's the case... I'd be ok cause i pretty much hate everyone. I think its naive to think a guy who had back to back 100 and 90 pt seasons is suddenly a bust

Over the last year (Feb 2024 -> Feb 2025) he's scored 65 pts in 95 games including playoffs - a 56pt pace.

Over the last 2 years before that, he scored 210 pts in 164 games - a 105 pt pace.

Insane drop off...
