I like dobberhockey's player deployment charts. Gives a quick n dirty overlook of 1. How a coach uses the players? and 2. How that player is doing with said deployment. I don't think there is a direct link to the tool, but it is embedded into the team stats page. And from there you can tinker with it. Add more teams, adjust TOI, positions, specific names, etc...

Couple observations--

  • Kane might be toast? He has a career low 33.3 CF% 5 on 5 this year. We are also getting outshot badly at 5 on 5 when he is on the ice (80 shots against compared to 45 shots for). I think we should look at moving him at the deadline, I am guessing some teams will be interested.
  • Tarasenko is doing well, I would keep him on the 2nd line and try rotating different players with him.
  • 2nd pairing is getting chewed up. Chiarot and Petry pairing needs to die.
  • Johansson and Berggren are doing pretty well with the sheltered minutes they are getting, probably worth giving them a bump.
  • Fischer and Holl might deserve more of a shot?

who pays kane's potential bonus if he gets traded at the deadline?

NTC
$1.5M Bonus at 10 GP <<--- Detroit will pay

$250K at 60 GP <--- Buyer will pay
$500K for playoffs <--- Buyer will pay
$250K for 60 pts and playoffs <--- Buyer will pay

So Detroit will pay the 1.5M after next game, and the possible last 1.0M will go to a team where Kane is after the trade deadline.

Can someone explain to me how seider and edvinsson are looking as a pairing?

Also good thing about Raymond, he’s got 8 points in 9 games with a 6% shooting percentage. That won’t continue. IMO, I Expect him to start tearing it up even more.
I think we have gotten to the point where I am pretty comfortable saying Raymond is our best forward. I have wanted him to bury more of the chances he gets though, even going back to last year.

As far as Seider and Edvinsson, depends on what you want to look at. We are much more even in terms of shots for/shots against when those two are out there compared to most of our other defenseman. When Chiarot and Petry are out there, the other team is pretty much outshooting us 2:1. I think that might be somewhat attributed to them typically sharing the line with the 2nd forward line, who this is also true for.

I am not sure how you fix it, but I think we definitely need to continue to shuffle the lines beyond the #1 defensive pair and #1 forward line. I would like to see Johansson get an extended look on the middle pair. And actually Holl has been decent when he has seen the ice. I would be curious to see what a Johansson-Holl pairing looks like (I am probably the only one).

I just recommended a Johansson holl second line pairing in a thread earlier. I think they wouldn’t be too terrible, much better than chiarot and Petry, who should be buried to the 3rd pair.

Tarasenko is doing horrible.

Old farts like me don't pay any attention to advanced stats/analytics, but you really don't need them when the eye test tells ya that the Red Wings look pretty rough so far this season...

No wonder when the flu bug is still there.

These first 10 games won't tell nothing on stats side, because even if the team will start playing good on next 10 games, the stats will still look bad, and stat-looking people are going crazy.

So far I'd prefer the eye-test only or excluding the flu bug stats from overall stats at thanksgiving 22-game mark.

This time next month we'll have a better idea...
