Sid's probably going to do that anyway, so I don't really see the harm of doubling down and then selling off after Sid.
Not only that, but you are still awarded a first-round draft pick every frickin' year! Just don't be a noob and trade the pick and we're fine. Especially 2026 and 2027, those are going to be much stronger drafts imo.

Lol it's the World Championships bro what GMing do you think Dubas is actually doing?
Should he have traded for players from France or something?

The coaching staff was Dean Evason, Andrew Brunette, Ryan Huska, and Steve McCarthy, and the players were the best of who was available.

Not much a GM can do.
It was an undersized roster that had players that did not gel with each other from the beginning. Obviously, the coaching played a big part. Dubas' influence on how the roster was constructed did as well. It'd be ignorant to suggest otherwise.

You think Canada lost to Denmark because Denmark was bigger than them?

Dubas isn't putting together a World Championship roster from some huge pool of Canadian players that want to go.

There's a limited number of NHLers that say yes. It's not like putting together an Olympic team where the decisions actually matter.

Sid asks to go - he goes. Nate Mack asks to go - he goes. etc.

Unless you think that Dubas choosing xyz 12th forward instead of xyz 12th forward was the difference in which case I think you're over analyzing it

No. It does play a part in taking up passing lanes and collapsing in the defensive zone where there's no opportunity to shoot on net. Do you watch how teams play in international hockey? Canada had success with guys like Tyler Myers and Owen Power on the backend because they took up so much space.

It kind of just looks like they shit the bed in a single game. They were good enough to beat Sweden, they were good enough to beat Denmark they just.. shit the bed.

The roster had three players listed under 6-feet-tall, two of whom are Sidney Crosby and Travis Konecny. Not exactly soft players. It had three players under 180 pounds - one of whom was Marc-Andre Fleury.

Denmark had two and two. Size didn't mean a thing.

More likely is Canada thought it could coast and it got goalied. It was the same problem last year, when Czechia won. There's a reason why Canada doesn't dominate this tournament like it does the Olympics when NHL players are involved.

Incidentally, I kind of wonder whether Ehlers isn't the one player I'd want the most out of this year's UFA crop anyway. This team is short an elite puck carrier more than just about any other skill set (other than being big and tough) and good lord can that kid carry a puck.

The time to get him was 3 years ago to play with Geno when the Jets were severely undervaluing him and there were rumblings that he was sort of on the market. Now I don't really see the point. I kind of think he'll stay in WInnipeg too, but it's 50/50.

Well yeah. At the price and age I don't think I'd actually want to do what's required to get him. But independent of all that I'd really like him here as a player.

This team should have been targeting guys like Ehlers, Boeser and even Miller and Tarasenko in the past. Instead we got glorified plugs for the most part.

He was my dream winger for Malkin for years. Basically as soon as JR traded Hagelin. He was like having Hagelin with elite skill.

Oh I forgot the Duby clause. Nothing is actually ever his fault.
I'd be very curious to hear your explanation as to how any GM is specifically at fault in an international hockey tournament when he has the best roster possible based on player availability/willingness to participate.

Dubas gming Canada to their most embarrassing loss in 20 years on the international circuit?

Yeah. Just trust this guy. Lol
Hope he wakes up and realizes that with the small ice, oversized goalies & equipment that the game has moved away from a skill game. Do you need skill in the lineup?? Yes. But you better surround that skill with meatheads that will attack the net.

That's the modern recipe for success and is a large reason why Sully destroyed the team since 18.

Consistently being a loser for nearly a decade at every level as a GM.
