He shows up to the arena dressed in outfits that look like his 5 year old niece picked out his outfit for him. Nobody that dresses like that cares about winning. :sarcasm:
Yeah that's kinda what I mean. Dude's way too goofy and into the rockstar aspect. Like, I get it, being young and obscenely wealthy from basically exercising and playing a game must f***ing rock. But somebody in his entourage needs to be there to make sure he's not f***in' around too much--and I think it's pretty clear he doesn't have that. Definitely doesn't have it in himself to push and improve/adapt/evolve.

I'd rather acquire Laf now and hope Sid and him click and he can reach his potential versus take a Laf type prospect, wait three years and then have one.
This is true, but for what we're paying (both in cost of acquiring and in AAV), I'd rather just throw 7+ million at a UFA and hope they click with Sid than take on a potential redevelopment project.

It's crazy that some clubs plan for the day when they have to change coaches. Weird. Next thing you'll be telling me is that someone might have a plan for what happens with all of their assets when they die? Psh. Crazy nonsense.

Whatever. Take as much time as you need. Would rather something - with SOME thought involved than a retread who will bring and do nothing.

Zero thought acceptance is what landed us Jarry. Due diligence with coaching. If it's all about a tank job - just throw anyone back there.

For clarity, I think Marner's a hell of a player and think he gets shafted when it comes to blame and all that. But yeah, I dunno.

I think Matthews having 3 goals in his past 21 or 22 playoff games is as big or bigger than any problem the Leafs have. You gotta find some way to fix that situation, cuz it's f***ing dire.

Maybe the GM should have put some push on Matthew's line ala Sam Bennett. With oversized goalies, you have to get people to the net to score. As good as the Jake was with Sid, that line would crumble under the weight of Playoff hockey......and Sully and Company never understood why.

I mean, sure, if you're ready to make a push for the playoffs or cup or have all the pieces in place for a run. But if you're trying to tank for a rebuild? I'm not so sure finding the "right guy" is really necessary.

Even if you're looking at a development coach to bring up the new guys, what is the real downside for getting a guy and canning him after a year if you don't like him or he doesn't work out? The window is gone, we can just go through coach after coach year after year until we get the results we want.

Again, for clarity, I don't really have a problem with a coaching search per se. I was mostly just trolling DP because he said originally it was impossible to do a coaching search while the IIHF World Cup is going on, and then the Pittsburgh media ran with that ball for mysterious reasons.

This is why Jake Sid Hornqvist was so frustrating. It looked great together because of the balance of parts but for whatever reasons (Sid, coach, Hornqvist) we couldn't try it for any real length of time.

Agree. Greatest line in Pens history.

I would easily trade for any quality young player the Penguins could acquire, but that said I'm pretty skeptical they have the assets for it. I'm not trading any of the Penguins 1sts and I'd require a pretty good young player (like Lafreniere or Rossi) to trade the Rangers 1st. That said, I'd be willing to bet other teams would outbid the Penguins with that mindset.

If they could pull it off, a McGroarty-Rossi-Rakell L2 looks pretty damn nice on paper for after Malkin retires. Would be even better if they could swap Rakell for a different young guy and have something like McGroarty-Rossi-Peterka.

I still think the ideal hockey line is Stevens - Lemieux - Jágr. No need to reinvent the wheel -- one physical guy who gets dirty, one playmaking center with vision, and one talented winger who can pot the puck or wheel and deal.

To a lesser extent, Malone - Malkin - Sykora. Or to shuffle positions and archtypes, Straka - Lang - Kovalev.

Yeah the Penguins have had quite a few examples of this that worked really well. Kunitz-Malkin-Neal is personally my favorite one, with Guentzel-Crosby-Hornqvist as another great one.

Yeah, it's just one of those weird mysteries as to why we suddenly forgot that we have had great success with that kind of team and top 6es. We had a model that has worked well for the entire era under different coaches and one day, nope. Not gonna do it.

In fairness... they have. They had Hyman for years and now they have Knies who is kind of made in a lab to be that kind of player.

Or sub Tocchet for Stevens... but yes.. agreed. 3 talented, yet non physical players on a line doesn't cut it the playoffs.

I mean, Tocchet was my personal favorite in terms of being a tough physical pest with hands (being a former pest myself), but Artie was the superior offensive player by far. Dude had a 40g season without flanking Mario.

That said, both were tough as nails, physical, and could pot goals and get the puck on net which is what we never were able to acquire for the entirety of Sid's tenure. Just imagine what could have been!

Kevin Stevens caving his face in is almost as big of a what-if as Mario and the health issues. Definitely one of my favorite all-time players and should be the definition for a skilled power forward. He was also kind of a dick on the ice and that's a huge plus.

Yeah, it also just makes one of those moments where the team is celebrating 30 goal scorers kind of sad, because we used to have multiple 50G+ guys on a team.
