I doubt it happens because I don’t think it fits the vision Dubas has, but if we could see this top 9 next year I would be happy:

McGroarty Sid Marner
Koivunen Malkin Tuch
Ponomarev Novak Tomasino

Wouldnt be shocked if Karlsson is given a chance under a new coach.

"I wanna be on the team coach. I want to play two-way hockey."

Given what is going down in the courts, I wouldn't re-sign Timmins.

Batherson just allegedly got dinged in one of the dispositions.

Dubas keeping him wouldn't surprise me given how he handled the Cousins situation, but I just don't see a Timmins contract going over well with the way the court case is going for that WJC team.

Based on Dubas cutting rope on Sullivan, I think EK65 is basically as good as gone.
Except, Dubas doesn't hold the cards, and taking a lowball offer on him while paying 50% on top is pretty stupid. Karlsson holds all the power in where he goes, and Dubas is stuck for what they are willing to give.

It's a lose/lose scenario. After going through all they did to get him, to get a roster player, C-level prospect and a 3rd would be terrible

I think the reality is Dubas doesn't like the room or else Sullivan wouldn't be gone.

I honestly don't think he cares the value that is returned.

Dubas will hire the coach who shares his vision of a retool. changes are coming in Karlsson. maybe one of the forwards. Karlsson holds some cards but a RH D PP player like him with retention will certainly be attractive. A 2 year contract with his level of puck moving and probably better talent has merit.

Actually, I think that's a pretty fair assessment based on his comments in the previous presser combined with his comments today.

We are missing that element of compete. I remember in a game where Geno lackadaisically skated back for a puck and got beat and the other team got the empty-netter, it may have been Bourque or even Caufield that said the team was missing those "secondary leader" guys like Kunitz, Bonino, and Cullen who would have roasted Malkin once he got back to the bench. Who is standing up to anyone in that locker room besides Sid, Geno, and Letang? Maybe even Karlsson? You think Gryz is gonna roast Karlsson on a bad play? Tomasino? Lol, Lizotte? Nah.

Not sure there's much to be done with Geno and Letang until they retire (or get traded) but at least we have some building blocks of guys who would fill that role - specifically McGroarty.

One less "unaccountable god" in the room (read: Karlsson) will help the sense of group accountability for sure.

Not only should they give Karlsson another chance with a new man behind the bench, but Ryan Graves should also get one more chance.

Dubas is smart. Selling low is the opposite of smart. We should not be trading away any players that require either sweeteners to be rid of or salary retention. Trade players when you can get value, or keep them.

The players we should move out are the Sullivan favorites, preferably to the ex-coach's next destination. Acciari being probably at the top of the list.

And this changes nothing regarding the goaltenders. Jarry needs to be moved regardless of the coach.

This lineup would get allot more bang for their buck getting Sam Bennett over Marner.

Dubas gave only the slightest hint of frustration regarding Sully, then Sully was gone. Dubas was WAY more overt about Karlsson. He's history.

Yeah this is maybe the story to follow this off-season. Do we dump EK and not replace him? Guess we're tanking. Do we keep him or pick up a couple good top 4 guys? Quick turn around it is.

I'm just confirming my own narrative but I really think we get "younger" this off-season, i.e. we trade EK and Rakell and don't really replace them.

I'm also super interested to see whether the new coach will have the balls to not just lock guys into lineup spots i.e. Rust with Crosby. Hell, maybe we can even manage Letang and Malkin during the season.

You wouldn't re-sign Timmins because he's guilty by association, or is there actually something suggesting he did something wrong?

I love grit. I love hitting. I disagree with many here about exciting being a high scoring hockey game. I love an intense 2-1 game. But can’t see this being the case, even if Bennett was half the cost. Marner is such a good player man.

I think whoever signs Bennett is giving him 7 years but hoping for 3 good ones. I don’t know if he’ll age well.

I don't see any reason that this team should be adding a Marner or Tuch caliber player at this point. You don't fire Sullivan and talk about how you're in a "transition" period just to go out and make a bunch of moves for win-now players, even ones as good as Marner and Tuch.

They're going to tank next year. Honestly the main thing I'm hoping for is that they bring in as few veterans as possible to give the young guys the maximum chances they can have to play. I want to see all of McGroarty, Koivunen, Broz, Ponomarev, Pickering and Brunicke spending the majority of the year in the NHL, assuming their play warrants it.

My off-season plans at this point would be:

1. Offload Rakell, Karlsson and Hayes for futures
2. Get paid to bring in a few cap dumps, primarily on LD if you can pick the position.
3. Leave open at least 4 open F spots and 2 open D spots for their top guys, and go with backup young guys (guys like St. Ivany and Poulin) if the top young guys don't pan out.

As an example:

-Karlsson at 50% to Carolina for Walker and a 2026 1st
-Rakell to the LAK for Pinelli and a 2025 1st
-Get paid Edmonton's 2026 2nd to take on Kane
-Give up a pick (probably a 3rd if I had to guess) to trade for Hague's RFA rights
-Trade Acciari to anyone that would give up anything of value for him

If Kane isn't broken and can actually play:

McGroarty-Crosby-Rust
Kane-Malkin-Koivunen
Heinen-Novak-Tomasino
Dewar-Lizotte-Ponomarev
Hallander-Hayes

Hague-Letang
Pickering-Walker
Graves-Brunicke
Shea

Jarry-Nedjelkovic

If Kane is broken, even better because you open up another forward spot for someone like Hallander to take.
