So Dubas actually comprehends that the left side of the Pens' blue line is complete garbage?

"Master of the f***ing Obvious" stuff there.

And did he really say "IF there is complacency here I'll do something about it", blah blah blah....?

IF?!?!

There's no more complacent team in the NHL, and it starts with Mr. "I singlehandedly won 2 Cups a decade ago and I'm set for life" behind the bench. Are we really to believe Dubas is ever going to unilaterally "do something about" that? His only hope is that Mr. Top-2-3 NHL Coach wants a new challenge (LOL) with either the Rangers or Bruins, because Dubas will never fire him.

I think it's safe to say that EK's gone. Between his "it's a business" stuff during locker clean out day, and now Yohe pausing his bootlicking to shriek about how EK *needs* to be traded and how he's bad for young guys to be around--it's pretty clear he's not gonna be here come October.

Just a matter of how much Dubas wants to retain (iirc he hates retaining on deals) and what the return's gonna be.

Still think it's a no brainer to use Rakell or Rust to fleece some team after FA dies down and teams are left empty handed. And then deal the other one at the TDL.

Lighting it up, no. Some of them are playing serviceable defense though and that’s something they couldn’t do here.

I don't think any of Dumoulin, Marino, Matheson or Petry are playing any better anywhere else than they were here.

Dumoulin's probably gotten the best improvement, but that's more from a reduction of role than anything. Marino and Matheson are the same defensemen they've been for years.

I have serious concerns about next year. How is Dubas gonna manage the Penguins and be the mayor of Pittsburgh moving forward?

Honest question to Dubas stans. What is your measure of success? Three years from now where is the team?

By then they need to have drafted two-three core pieces. If they do that they're more than capable of filling in pieces around them as this would be the heavy lift. They need to draft and develop effectively high end centers first and foremost.

I think people see a guy like McCann score 40 or Granlund go on to pile up points for the Sharks and immediately think everybody who leaves is instantly propelled to success.

Nah man, sometimes the player is just dogshit. Some cases like McCann and Granlund happen where they do well elsewhere, but then you've got a myriad of cases like Kapanen playing ECHL-caliber hockey, Sprong being on his 19th team cuz he's an arrogant moron, McGinn, Zohorna, Nylander not even being in the NHL anymore, etc..

This is not a defense of Sullivan. I've been wanting the guy fired since like 2019. I just think the GMing decisions (largely influenced by Sullivan) have also been absolutely ratf***ed for many, many years.

You’re not going to answer because if you define it and he doesn’t do it then you would have to admit you were wrong.

I think you're just lashing out at nothing here. I don't even know what point you're arguing about.

I said your argument regarding "Dubas is deflecting blame" was a stupid argument when he explicitly said that it's his responsibility to address any complacency in the organization.

Is lashing out your phrase of the day or something?

For reference, deflection is what you’re doing now.

Well, I'm assuming that we'll just be starting the rebuild then, so the team will be rock bottom. Barring great luck and/or prospects panning out better than their draft positions, that is.

No it's just what you're doing here. Freaking out about Dubas somehow blaming everyone else for his problems, the bringing up Eller and then bringing up all of the defensemen that have left and are playing better elsewhere. It's just an incoherent rambling of you just airing out everything you don't like about Dubas.

And for what I count as "success" with Dubas, it's acquiring young players and picks that turn into NHL pieces in the future. Which is why I consider his job since the Guentzel trade as a good and his job before the Guentzel trade as terrible.

Dubas has stunk so far. This is really the first year he can go a full angle though.

If he doesn’t move any of Rust, Rakell or EK65 this summer, I don’t know how you can take his comments seriously from today’s presser.

Of course you'd say he has stunk, you take literally every opportunity to say that Ville Koivunen sucks.

After watching the press conference and reading the comments here, it's clear why some people are general managers in the NHL and why some people post on HFBoards.

I think Dubas is miffed because Karlsson went from 100 points to 50 points in B2B seasons and it’s obvious now that his desire to be traded from San Jose exceeded his motivation to win in Pittsburgh despite his lip service. And I say this as a fan of his and acknowledging that he’s basically the only decent player on that defense.

He also didn’t translate his 4 nations showing to the Pens either. Some of it may be coaching but the Pens literally brought in the coach he got 100 points with. I would be pretty pissed if I was KD too.
I imagine there's at least animosity there. EK was his big time splash to give that "last jolt to the core" and it doesn't work out. That was anig trade to make with so little positive. Now that said, A LOT of that trade was cleaning up the mess from the previous GM.
The longer it's been since his 18 month run of exceptional GMing, the more I'm convinced JR didn't ever have a strategy and his random "throw shit at the wall to see what sticks" approach just happened to luckily hit over and over and it resulted in back to back Cups. Dude sucked shit in Carolina for a decade before coming here, and he's sucked shit since the summer of 2017.
I think JR was perfect in that 2016-17 role - getting that team over the top. That's tough to do and his Summer 2015 to Summer 2018 was a master class in GM'ing in my opinion. I thought he built a great roster in Vancouver. The downfall there is your two top centers swinging their purses at each other and neither can come to terms with each other. Sometimes it IS the GM...but sometimes it IS the players themselves. Now that all said, if Vancouver is going to the retool and rebuild mode, I don't t think JR or Alvinn for that matter are who want leading that charge.
Let's not pretend Matheson has been good for Montreal. Since the 4 nations break him and Carrier have been one of if not the worst defensive pairings in the league.
Gotta protect your boy Hextall right to the bitter end, don't ya?

You say this but then say this:
I disagree. What I got from this presser is he isn’t tearing down the team and is willing to trade for and sign players to big deals as long as they fit the appropriate age group.
Despite him directly addressing it at 19:00 with literally the first question asked.

You can't even keep straight your own f***ing story straight bud.
