The "FF" in question is the revival of Faceoff-Factor, Jesse's former hockey site that focused on the Penguins' prospects, system, and the guys fans were all hoping would turn the team around. It was a great resource for fans of a rebuilding team, especially prior to social media exploding, and a way to get some hockey insights and analysis.

Jesse is bring it back on Substack.

I don't think they're really going to have a choice to play him. The UFA LD market is horrendous and anyone they could sign would likely require a multi-year deal.

That's why I've come around to supporting trading for K'Andre Miller's RFA rights. I don't particularly like Miller as a player all that much, but they desperately need guys who can play minutes and Miller's at least a minute eating middle pair guy. They can't go into next year with Pickering, Shea and Graves as their LD but UFA likely won't give them any better options.
My interest in Miller eroded as soon as I read that 12-15 teams are interested. Not interested in getting in to a bidding war for a middle-tier player.

I really want Byram on this team, I just don't want to pay the price to get Byram on this team.
It's occurring to me that I want to be right about us being on Byram more than I actually think I want Byram.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for us, the rumours I've heard is that the Sabres want a RD in the deal and I expect it'll probably be something like to SJ for Liljegren + DAL 1st or to LA for Spence + LA 1st

That Spence and a LA 1st package is what I’m expecting Rakell to bring back, so could you flip that plus a bit more for Byram? Basically turn the deal into Rakell+ for Byram.

I’d also be fine with doing Rakell for Spence and #24 and then Spence and #12 for Byram. You’re not losing any picks by doing that, you’re just trading down to swap Rakell and Byram.

If they did this, I would have to think they feel very confident in Tomasino coming back and playing 2nd Line RW minutes

They’d probably sign someone like Saad or trade for another young guy if they did that, I wouldn’t be all that worried.

Swapping and #12 for Byram and #24 would probably make me happy, especially if you could draft someone like Kindel at #24. I like the idea of trading down with picks to make trades more than losing picks to make trades, and moving down from #12 to #24 is well worth swapping Rakell for Byram.

Not only that, but signing Saad lets you keep Koivunen on RW and run with:

McGroarty-Crosby-Rust
Saad-Malkin-Koivunen

Even the freshest of us want to just be right..

Dubas moving out EK65 and Rakell for picks and prospects to take on Dumba and Marchment contracts for higher pick swaps and trading them both at next years trade deadline for more? lol

Yeah I'm okay with that although I'd be shocked if the Stars can't get positive value back for Marchment

I know Larry Brooks has written multiple times that Drury tries to avoid making player trades in conference and cursory search of his trade history reinforces that as well. If he has similar options to move Miller out of the conference, I think he takes it over sending him in the division.

I think this more impacts Bourque, I’m 100% throwing an offer sheet at him for a 3rd round compensation.

Easy way to replace Rakell in the top-9 is offer sheet Bourque and play either him or Novak on the wing. I’d probably advocate for a Koivunen-Novak-Malkin L2 and Bourque as the 3C.

Why would the returns be shit? Nobody's selling, teams are in a frenzy to keep up with the roster arms race, there's only so many Marners, Ehlers, Boesers, etc. to go around on July 1st, we're already hearing reports that teams are seriously interested in Rust, there was a market for Rakell at the TDL.

I'd trade Rakell for a 1st+prospect at the draft. I'd trade Rust for the same return as soon as his NTC drops and the dust settles, when teams have missed out on big names in FA.

Take the two 1sts and a couple of Koivunen-caliber prospects and tell Rust and Rakell to pack their shit. Simple. /shrug
With every Duchene, Bennett, etc. who re-signs before July 1, Rust and Rakell’s value grows. They could very well end up the best assets available outside of Marner and Ehlers, at a time when everyone and their mother is in an arms race.

This is where I’m at. Offer sheet Mavrik Bourque.

Yep. A lot of teams wanting to get into the playoffs and some teams trying to maintain playoffs.

We need to take advantage of this.
