Salary Cap: 24-25 Salary Thread Crosbicles Volume MXIIX: Rust out, Marner in, all part of the plan!

I feel like Nashville will wake up and prob be a seller at some point. If they don’t they are idiots (which may be the case).

Flames are in a weird spot but prob should be sellers… right? Kraken could maybe elect to move some pieces as well. A lot of short term deals for older players expiring there soon.

Don’t really see another team in the East. Maybe the Bs but who do they have left to sell?

I’d say that the Pens, Preds, and Kraken end up being sellers this summer. Which is still super low but don’t see how it’s just us.

Did this ever get talked about?

I would say that the appeal of getting a top 15 pick in this draft for one of Rust or Rakell changes depending on whether or not we also get the Rangers' pick this year. I feel that while having three picks in the top 15 in this draft isn't bad, per se, I'd rather have two in this draft and two (potentially) next draft.
nah! 15 in this year's draft is too low. i don't see a good prospect falling that low.

It's not weird it's quite normal. Markets change year to year based on sellers and buyers. Comparing 2024 deadline to 2025 is largely pointless. Obviously 2025 was more favorable for sellers.
Right the 2024 market was less favorable. I mean it was totally loaded with elite wingers that were 40 goal scorers, who are also damn good playoff performers. I mean so many players of that caliber were available that it was impossible to get more Jake. Totally

What rental winger got a better return in the 2024 trade deadline?

I think it's more than fair to criticize the Guentzel trade as being mid. I disagree, but I understand the point of view. I personally believe that there are times you go for quantity and times you go for quality in trades, and I don't mind going for quantity with Guentzel because I do believe the quantity can still be pretty good. But I'm higher on Koivunen than you.

I do think Dubas now needs to target quality. He needs to get maximum value for Karlsson, Rust, Rakell, etc., whatever that ends up looking like. He can't accept lesser picks or prospects.

FYI, I actually agree with you on Brunicke. I think he and Pickering both end up as OK middle pair defensemen. Which is fine. But not earth-shattering. I think people got ahead of themselves with how he looked in camp last year.
See I feel the opposite. I believe when you are dealing an elite player you should be getting maximum value and not settling for quantity. When you’re dealing with non-elite players that’s when it’s ok to settle for more quantity because those players don’t have high enough value to get quality. Jake had that value, even as a rental in my opinion.
