Idk showing Malkin is 52nd percentile offensive, 4th percentile defensive, 64th percentile on the PP and 53rd percentile finishing doesn’t seem like all that good of a player? Like he’s not shot but he’s a middle-6 caliber player that should be playing wing at this point.

This place gets super touchy about Malkin and I don’t get it. He’s a franchise legend, but he has taken a pretty massive step back into just an okay 2nd line caliber guy and he’s only going to get worse. It seems like some people interpret acknowledging that reality as “scapegoating” Malkin.
How much of a step back has he taken vs going from Zucker/Rust to Beauvillier/DOC? Two years ago when he played with Zucker/Rust he had the 26th most points in the league.

Every basement team is on the come up? Lol not. Much to our chagrin there will be at least five worse than this team.
Every basement team will either be trying to improve (CHI, SJ, ANA, BUF etc.) or likely improve from regression (NSH, BOS)

The only ones I see as actively trying to get worse are Seattle and Philadelphia and you never know with either of those franchises. I think with the cap going up everyone's going to scrambling for ticket revenue.

In my opinion, there are 7 legit center prospects in this draft that could really help us. Beyond that, it becomes more muddy with guys like Reschny et al.
How many have any hope of being franchise centers? Because that's what we will need in 2-3 years.

He was great to start the season and then Sullivan decided to f*** him right over. Geno getting shit on by some twats that don’t get it is par for the course.

Also I don’t believe a f***ing thing Yohe says. If a new coach doesn’t pull the same dumb Sully shit, Geno will do well.

I also don’t give two f***s what some wanker that claims Muse was in his top two choices bs.

Say Muse doesn’t f*** him over to wank off Sid, Geno goes ppg or better and out produces Sid, they would definitely ask him if he wants to play another year.

Because all the coach needs to do is literally the opposite of what Sullivan did, which was pure sabotage just to appease one player.

Even near the end, Koivunen was far better with Geno and he still f***ed him over one last time before his bitch ass was fired finally.

I don’t think Seattle can afford to be shit another year, they’ll be ok to just barely miss but not be bottom 3. Francis f***ed that franchise so hard and coaches paid for it while his dumb ass just got fired to be promoted up and then they name the dipshit Botty Bots as the Gm.

They about to be a 5yrs old franchise and are on their 3rd coach.

Malkin has been strictly worse since the COVID shutdown. The '19-'20 season he was their best player, easily. But then he was dreadful when they came back in 2021, saved by Kapanen being on the right cocktail of drugs to dominate for a month. He's had some highs and lows since then, but I don't think he's gotten notably worse in the last couple of years. As you mentioned, it's also been linemate-dependent.

He is still a far way off to how awful Carter was in his last year here. And he's earned the right to embarass himself on the ice like that if he wants to. The team isn't going anywhere regardless.

I find it interesting that Rossi hasn't shared anything about Malkin or even shared Yohe's article on social media. He shared other content from The Athletic today, but not the big hockey story from his colleague.

Out of all of the local media, Rossi has gotten more one-on-ones and exclusives with Malkin. I can't help but wonder if Rossi has heard something different than Yohe but doesn't want to contradict his longtime colleague.

I don’t believe the report just given the fact that there is zero reason to say for sure he’s not coming back unless he’s retiring. And if he’s retiring then just say that. If he’s not retiring why would you close the door? Makes no sense.

Two years ago he was also 36, and players regularly fall off dramatically in their late 30s.

Like I said, this place is completely bizarre when it comes to Malkin. Any sort of suggestion that Malkin has fallen off makes people insanely touchy and they’ll blame anything but the obvious, that players start declining in their late 30s. And there’s nothing wrong with that and it isn’t a criticism on Malkin.

IMO if you want to properly support Malkin, I’d be advocating for keeping Rust and playing him with Malkin. I think it could be a good idea to do a two-part trade where you do:

1. Rakell to LAK for Spence and pick #24
2. Spence to Buffalo for Quinn

Run with McGroarty-Crosby-Quinn on L1 and Koivunen-Malkin-Rust on L2. I can see a need for the Penguins keeping Spence as well, but I figure any EK trade will involve the Penguins taking a RD back.

How do we feel about Poulin? I feel like this season he either should get a real shot or get traded to a team that wants to take a shot at him.

I feel like Poulin has been in the system for like ten years.

I think he's had a rough ride and some of it not his fault. But he seems like a 4th liner at the NHL level and even in that capacity I'm a little at a loss as to what his exact role is. Honestly he seems to even had a bit of a struggle at the AHL level.

Well, sure. But I mean even the golden child Gavin McKenna is not a franchise center. So maybe the next wave of Penguins will be built differently than what we have known in the past.

If the expectation is that we will bottom out, get two franchise centers and rinse/repeat, people around here are going to be in for quite a letdown.

Again, the key for me will be to avoid becoming the next Buffalo or Chicago.
