It's just the usual suspects around here pushing this "trade Rakell" narrative, sometimes I think it's because he made fools out of said posters last year, and they're concerned he'll do it again.

If the Pens want to win during the rest of Sid's career they can't trade Rakell, aside from an absurd overpay, as Dubas said. There are almost no Rakell trades where the Pens win that deal in the next couple of years. A middling 1st and a prospect doesn't help us as much as 30 goals a year from Sid's wing will. The plan should be to win in 2026-27.

Rakell has been a consistent scoring two-way winger his entire career, is on a dirt cheap deal, and plays both sides. He's our 2nd best forward and is a year younger than Rust, and has historically been pretty durable. Just don't saddle him with the husk of Geno and he'll continue to be a solid 25-30g type player. Trade Rust if you want more draft capital and/or to make room for a certain RW. And with a rising cap I'd be all in on Marner, I think he gets a bum rap because his trigger man keeps coming up empty, and would be insane setting up Sid and Raks.
I'd call it getting fair value in a seller's market, but otherwise agreed. We got a 2nd for a UFA Beavillier. A 34 year old Kreider making more than Rakell and coming off a garbage season still had net positive value. Since that's the standard, its fair to get a mid first and a promising young player for a guy coming off a 35 goal year signed for 3 more seasons at a fantastic price.

It's 2025. We're witnessing a 38 year old Marchand tear it up in the Finals. Not much reason to think the wheels are gonna fall off Rakell at 33.

I mean there is the thing where he is a static goal scorer whose game is completely predicated on having an elite playmaker at the center of it.

Who do you guys like with the 2nd round pick this year? Any chance Carter Amico could fall that far? Seeing people discuss Mrtka as a potential first round pick for us, I'd think they'd like Amico aswell if he's available in the later parts of the second round..

Okay and just this season the Rangers and Predators relied on a bunch of 30+ year olds who disappointed. Wheels fall off at that age all the time without prior warning.

All I know is that every single one of you signed on to the Crosby/Malkin initiative and knew one day this would be a reality, just as you all were fine with these guys being Penguins 'til the end. Well, the end hasn't come yet.

If anyone is rushing a rebuild, it's you few clamoring for it, changing your minds because some guy, McKenna is there who I don't think is a slam dunk generation player. 2028 and Maddox Schultz (being compared to Crosby) and Liam Pue who both got drafted by Regina Pats 1st and 3rd OA are the targets to look forward to.

When Crosby is likely to be done, maybe.

Yep, he's a complementary scorer, no doubting that. But again, there aren't going to be any play-driving wingers who put up comparable numbers who'll be on the market for anywhere near his cap hit, so its moot.

Brad Marchand is a borderline hall of famer.

I'd be surprised if Rakell keeps this up much longer.
I'd bet that Rakell can stay productive this season with Crosby and Malkin rather than trade him for below market value.

How old is Letang again? The wheels can fall off whenever.

If Sid or Geno ever leave it'll be because they wanted to. They'd have to initiate the decision for the process to actually go through. I don't really care if they play a year or two elsewhere. /shrug

Nobody's gonna look back on Marchand's career and think of him as anything other than a Bruin despite playing a year and a couple months somewhere else.

I don’t even know how you can. But if someone can find a way it’ll be him.

It’s funny because you can totally make Sid happy by giving Marchand 10 mil x 3 this summer after you move out Rust and Rakell.
Well the bright side is if/when he f***s up this summer, and Mario and his weird pedophile-adjacent buddy buy the team back, Dubas will probably be fired.
