Salary Cap: 24 25 Salary Thread Crosbicles Volume Mmxxvii Retool over Time to Go for A Cup in 2026

From Yohe’s story on Koivunen and McG lol…in case you need another reminder to drink heavily:

“Rust gets it. So does Rakell. And no one gets it more than Crosby.

Those three fully intend on being in Pittsburgh when the Penguins return to glory. So does coach Mike Sullivan.”

A reward, his Birthday and his play. He was talking next season.

I would be fairly surprised for their top-6 to not be:

McGroarty-Crosby-Rust
Koivunen-Malkin-Rakell

Next year, assuming McGroarty and Koivunen are on the NHL team.

I don't think this is all that surprising, I think Rakell has explicitly said that he loves playing in Pittsburgh and doesn't want to be traded.

Whether Dubas makes the call to trade him or not shouldn't be based on that, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest those three really enjoy playing for the Penguins.

Don't see where Poulin fits TBH. He's not going top 6, but I'm pretty sure McGroarty and Koivunen are up to see if they can be. Bottom 6 is a logjam still with Hayes, Heinen, Acciari all blocking, and Pono needing to clear.
Hes got everything he needs to be a solid 3rd liner. Watched him last year live in Calgary and he was a motor out there. We do need to clean up the junk in the bottom 6 and defense though.

Or the Kids play with Geno and Rak and Rust go back to Sid. Dubas stated he was done trading for assets this deadline. Feel pretty confident in saying that hes going shopping this summer and intends to compete next season. We shall see how it plays out.

Our goal should be to suck next season and Dubas should be trying to trade Rakell and Rust this offseason if he gets a good return and he should be firing Sullivan, who’s deserved it for a long time…

Be prepared to be surprised then.

Sid isn't about change, and Geno is not the Geno of old. His linemates are not gonna cover up his warts and will actually hurt their growth. The best thing that can happen is Geno gets injured early, and they become line #2.

Unless another player comes in via trade, I'd expect McGroarty, Novak, Koivunen.

I mean Rak could in theory play with the Kids after Marner signs here. :sarcasm:

If Geno is not the Geno of old, why are they going to play him with Dewar and Tomasino? Playing him with Koivunen and Rakell actually gives him 2 talented wingers to play with that can help alleviate some of the offensive play driving off of his plate.

I'm really not understanding the argument you're making here. The best way this team can be set up is one of Rakell or Rust and one of Koivunen or McGroarty with Sid and Geno. I'd prefer McGroarty-Crosby-Rakell and Koivunen-Malkin-Rust, but I think the difference between Rust and Rakell on L1 vs L2 is pretty irrelevant.

Everything they are telling you they are "NOT DOING."
And they’d be stupid not to if they want to achieve the stated goal of competing as soon as possible in Sid’s remaining tenure…chances of hitting every traded player in a Washington-like retool is very difficult to achieve…they need multiple years of top 5 draft picks

Malkin isn't good enough anymore to give him 2 rookies and hope that line has success.

He needs either Rakell or Rust or they need to acquire someone better from outside the organization to play with him.

Trading away a nothing player like Glass gives me hope that they will try to trade players like Heinen, Hayes and Acciari. It seems they finally understood that these type of players don’t help the team and a non scoring bottom 6 isn’t the way to construct a team.
2 of those 3 were cap dumps we were paid to take. I don't think we were putting an awful lot of stock in them bolstering the bottom 6.

The two moves that Dubas will make is Karlsson and either Rust or Rakell. Me I keep Rakell unless the offer is includes a good young center. Karlsson brings back a nice asset and cap room of say 40 million give Dubas the room to add Marner. and physical LD.
