Salary Cap: 24 25 Salary Thread Crosbicles Volume Mmxxvii Retool over Time to Go for A Cup in 2026

And I'm telling you that won't work. What evidence is there that such a strategy will pay dividends? The core has aged out minus Sid. There is no quick fix, so how and where exactly is this Calvary coming? Marner, other UFA's? How?

Well, it's their plan, and you'll have to watch it play out. I'm betting they trade for their needs. They already have draft capital, and a top 5/6/7 pick coming their way. Maybe a mid 1st 2025 or 2026.

Sitting here whining about it gets you exactly where?

Let them disintegrate, don't throw them a life line, leave the kids down in WB, do this shit next year!

If the kids do well this could F up the draft, if they don't this could F with their confidence at the end of the year playing meaningless games here! This is a no win Situation!

What the f*** KYLE???????
The draft is what it is, especially this year. The kids have earned it, give them a taste and hope it accelerates their growth as they will understand what it takes. It's as much mental as it is physical, let them try to figure it out with a short stint, then send them back to hopefully dominate the AHL playoffs, and have a huge summer where they progress physically.

Having said all the above... they best get minutes, if not, then this is a total waste of time if not downright harmful to their development.

Guys here will be very surprised when the teams still suck even with McG and Kouv in the lineup.

Two young guys with little to no experience aren’t going to help this team play defense or stop a touchdown from going up on the scoreboard because our goalies are horrific.

It's an unnecessary risk. It also puts pressure on the rest of the roster to buckle up and play better. This isn't done to further a tank! They're trying to win games that only hurt us! It's like having a headache and hitting yourself in the head with a hammer to cure it! It's asinine!

The intent is to try and spark the team.

Unfortunately many here do not understand that you win in this league by drafting and developing core pieces. It's been a while since we've drafted such a player but without that we'll never be good again.
Dude.... as much as the Pens have shit on the idea of a proper culture for some time now.... it matters. They all need to be about winning and getting better. If an infusion of youth f***s their draft up, the old me would be pissed off, the new me is hoping we are slowly turning the corner. It's beyond time to build something to move forward with... and if this ends up helping the cause, I'm all for it.

So once again you don't know what you're talking about.

Trade for their needs? Isn't that like saying that water is wet?

Their needs are great and they are many. This is not gonna be a quick fix.

And this situation isn't remotely like the caps situation. We didn't have cap flexibility because Backstrom and Oshie are out. To the tune of what 16 million dollars? Not the same at all.

Also, if you don't like my opinion or perspective you don't have to respond with these ridiculous assertions of yours.

They won't get better until the coach leaves and the old dogs retire. Period! Bringing these kids up does nothing to further that from happening. Turning a corner? Have you watched this team the last few years?

Is it possible Dubas is also testing Sullivan with these last callups? He may want to see how Sully mixes the youth in the lineup before heading into an important offseason.

I've watched most games every season for the past 30 plus years. At this point, I do my best to follow the process, hope for the best outcome, and enjoy it when it happens. I've been the opposite in a deep dark way many a time, and right now, I choose hope and enjoyment. (disclaimer, I have a right to change said stance at any time, though of course I'll do my best not to :D)

Where did anyone say it was going to be a quick fix? The Caps was over a few years bringing up the prospects and trading for the rest.

There's more than one way to retool. The Pens are sitting on 23.0 in cap space next year. They don't have to worry about LTIR.

We can agree on one thing, it should be an interesting Summer.

100 percent agree.... not only this Summer, but the next few. In a perfect world, next summer will be the "hockey stick chart" level turn, but I suspect it will take at least 2, if not 3 years (hopefully not too many more). I'd love for Sid to be a part of it as a player, but only time will tell. (See, that's the optimist in me, I'll keep trying to keep myself there)

I concur with that time line, which is why I don't see it as a retool. By the time this team gets off the mat the core will likely be gone. I doubt Rust or Rakell are here either. Maybe Sid is here at 40 years old. That's about it.

I hate even the comparison with the Caps. Not only have they not won near as much as us. They weren’t out trading away 1st rounders which played into not helping them win.

Oh and the fact that they got lucky with some horrific contracts on their roster.

They traded the 1st they got from Boston for Hathaway to Toronto for Sandin,

With our own 1st we haven't had the potential to draft this high in decades! Many here must not remember but for this team and for a long time that was the norm.
