BingoI imagine we're about to see a LOT of waiver activity.
Adding more players for Dubas to eventually acquire? What is Nashville doing![]()
Could be worse. You could be a sponsor. This site is such dogshit that it's slowing to a crawl because Ryan Reaves got waived
I hate Leafs fans
After last night's trade, I was thinking about it a bit, and I came to a realization about the Pens: don't expect the young guys to get called up this season.
And it's not (just) because of Sullivan.
Dubas and Spezza have talked about how having a winning team in WB/S is important for development. The NHL team is currently going nowhere, but WB/S is one of the top teams in the AHL. To that end, there is a certain degree of sense in keeping the prospects in WB/S for the rest of this year in hopes of actually contending for the Calder Cup. And if they want to do that, that means having non-prospect players on the NHL roster in the meantime.
Bringing in players who are signed through next year, but aren't part of the long-term plans, fits this model just fine. You want to start calling up the prospects to get NHL experience next season, after hopefully having a bunch of success in the AHL this year. At that point, you can move out the now-pending UFAs to make space, since those guys aren't in the long-term plans. If they win the Calder Cup this spring, you consider moving players out over the summer, but otherwise, let it happen leading up to next year's deadline.
To this end, I wouldn't expect to see Heinen or Schenn moved out unless there's an NHL player coming back either in return or via a different trade (similar to how Desharnais was immediately replaced by Schenn). Though I suppose for forwards, the Pens can still just bring up Nieto to keep the prospects cooking down in Wilkes-Barre.
I'm not saying that's the route I would take, but at least there's a logic to it, and the moves made so far are consistent with such a plan.
Must be Marner's fault.Leafs savior Treliving handing out a 3 year, $4M deal to a 37 year old who is one of the worst players in the NHL *didn't* work out? Weird.
Did they get a contract done?Man Lou not trading Nelson is hilarious. Love seeing the isles crash and burn. A bunch of teams are f***ed now too. He was the only top-6 center on the whole market. Someone is gonna pay a dumb price for Laughton now
Must be Marner's fault.
Just going off a tweet someone posted on the last page. Apparently Lou isn't trading NelsonDid they get a contract done?
Only if it doesn’t pass the “is it Doobler/Dubass/kindergarten Kyle’s fault” testMust be Marner's fault.
Did they get a contract done?
I think the Leafs are gonna pay through the nose for him.Man Lou not trading Nelson is hilarious. Love seeing the isles crash and burn. A bunch of teams are f***ed now too. He was the only top-6 center on the whole market. Someone is gonna pay a dumb price for Laughton now
Shanahan pulls the strings.Nah it's Dubas' fault. Dubas kept together that soft core and made no changes, so Treliving obviously had to bring in Reaves to add some toughness.
Let's not mention that Leafs fans also defend that core and defend Treliving's decisions to keep it together. Shh no need.
Are you more sold on Schenn’s upsideI feel like Minten for Schenn at 50% is something Toronto would do. My only issue with it is that I'm not super high on Minten's upside, he just feels like another potential bottom-6 center caliber guy.
