You gotta wonder what the f***'s going on in Carolina for Jake and now Rantanen to be guys that team acquires before going "Nah actually f*** this shit, I want out."
I mean do you wanna play man on man every night for a hardo coach that hasn’t won shit?

Probably the NHL equivalent of going to work in a sales bro bullpen with a bunch of meatheads parroting David Goggins and facing creatine while ripping off granny for term life insurance

This has been my criticism of every GM since the end of JR’s tenure here. They’d make mistakes, they’d correct the mistakes, they’d get a ton of room (for a Penguins team, anyhow) and then immediately blow it all on above-market-value bottom-6 players who weren’t even special in any meaningful way other than “good PKer!!!!”

That’s one of the reasons I dislike most of the criticism levied against Dubas. Yeah he’s made some mistakes, but it’s the same stupid mistake 99% of all GMs make. I swear, if you could get past the whole “they’d never respect a nobody”, a lot of educated fans and a capologist would make a better FO than most of the old boys network.

"What value is empty cap space?"

3 months later "How did that team get X player so cheap!?!?!?!?" [Oh they took them full or mostly full with no retention]

Let's trade X...can't without retention - money in money out.

Utterly absent logic. Unless, of course, they somehow thought that 12 guys barely above AHL caliber players were WORTH spending money on and thought they could compete with them. That is frankly the scarier of the two scenarios.

Anyone else simply happy to see some of these players gone? I mean, we can debate returns and stuff...and Sully all day long...but man - what a complete void of inspiration this club has been.

And yeah, keep willing Sid/Geno together into existence please. Right after Raks is gone.

Chris Johnston on his show:

-LA and Utah are among teams in on Rakell
-LA was in on Rantanen initially, but they backed off due to the bidding war
-Penguins are comfortable keeping Schenn if they don't get a good offer, they didn't survey the trade market for him before acquiring him
-Penguins don't really want picks, they want young players. CJ notes that Rakell would be available with that target in mind, they're not interested in a guy that will take 3-5 years to get here.
-Beauvillier, Grzelcyk and Schenn are guys that CJ mentions are trade candidates

I still think that Rakell for Clarke makes by far the most sense with each team.
Agreed.
Dumo and another player just went to the devils for a 2nd
Yea a player drafted 3rd last year.

Basically 2 2nds.
Please move Schenn!

This is probably the price you're looking at with an Acciari trade, maybe a 5th coming back than a 4th. Sucks Florida did this because I thought they made a lot of sense and Sturm is very similar to Acciari.

IMO you either target a young defenseman with top-4 potential or a young NHL winger with top-6 potential in any Rakell trade. If you acquire the latter, you just slide that young winger into Rakell's old spot and play him with Crosby.

Like if you get Turcotte from LA for Rakell, just make L1 Turcotte-Crosby-Rust.
Exactly. That's where he's currently playing. Turcotte, Kopitar, Kempe.

If Dubas doesn't trade Rakell, Jack Black needs to punt him off the Fort Pitt Bridge.

But if Lou isn't in senior management, who will prevent the players from wearing high numbers?
Not taking advantage of Rakell's value in a market like this should genuinely be a fireable offense, but the dude's signed for another half decade or something. Honestly though, just donkeybrains stuff if he doesn't capitalize, and makes up some bullshit excuse like "We like our team" or "He works so well with Sid."

The Blues have a lot of center prospects of varying levels. Zach Dean, Dalibor Dvorsky, Otto Stenberg, Aleksander Kaskimaki to name four.

It would be awesome to land a C prospect from St. Louis in a Luke Schenn deal.
