I think the Rangers are currently 17th, but they're 1 point ahead of 3 times. If they win a few more games, it's probably shrek and we're getting stuck with something shitty like the 19th pick.

We probably want them to finish worse than 14th, too, like maybe 10th. They might give us 14th. Really need to get next years and pull off some curse shit

every day i log into this website to check the latest news, i scroll the top threads, read the latest posts, i have a few laughs, it's great.

You know what the best part of my day is? For about 10 seconds, from the moment the page loads to the moment I scan the top 3 or 4 threads, i think maybe, just maybe, i'll see a post saying Sully won't be here, no goodbye, no see ya later, no nothin, just fired.
While I appreciate this viewpoint and certainly agree, I must caution you with weilding a quote as powerful as that. You are suggesting that you are Ben Afleck and Sullivan is Will Hunting in this scenario. While they are both scuzbags from Boston, let's not doing anything that suggests Sullivan has a fraction of the wit and cognitive ability that Will Hunting and his apples had.

I just want the Rangers pick this year. We have time to acquire another 1st next year, and we probably will, but 2 1sts this year will get this rebuild moving. The Rangers might be worse next year, but they might be way better too. A lot of their players are having down years that I wouldn't really bet on continuing next year. This draft will be huge for rebuilding our prospect pool.

I don't think this draft is all that weak either. There are tiers and drop-offs but it's fine. The middle of this draft especially has a lot of players with upside I think. Lots of boom-or-bust smaller guys.

Id rather take the gamble and have it slide, but don’t necessarily disagree. It’s not the end of the world to pick 14-22 this season.

Not hard to see Shesterkin locking in and putting up a Vezina year after a down year.

Yes, 100%. I doubt Tampa does though. That said, I was fairly high on Geekie during his draft year and I was surprised he fell as much as he did. If you can score a 1C in the next two drafts, he'd be a great 2C.

Yeah my interest in the trade makes me think that Tampa wouldn't do it, but crazier things have happened. He was one of 3 pieces in the Sergachev trade, so his value may not be as high as I'm thinking it is.

I think people are undervaluing the 2025 draft based on this idea that it's terrible. IMO the guys you're taking at 15 this year are still legitimate 1st round talents. It would be different if the 1st was coming in at like 30th overall, but 15th overall should still give you a 1st round talent player.

15th overall in 2026 may be better than 15th overall in 2025, but I don't know that 25th overall in 2026 is better than 15th overall in 2025. At that point, I'd just take getting the prospect earlier.

Let's say Rangers slip to around 19th overall, and Pens pick in the region 5-8 which seems likely.

Use 19th and Pens pick to try and move up into the top 3, or stay put for two picks?

I would sacrifice it to get into the top 3 but the top 5 teams ain't trading down so...pointless.

I only see Beauvillier and Grzelyck for like 4th rounders. I think teams are a bit hesitant about Rakell. So maybe that's an off-season move.
Seeing as how Dubas was able to get a 4th rounder for Ruhwedel, I'm holding on to hope that Grzelyck can return at least a 3rd. Not that I wouldn't take a 4th for him, I'm just hoping for better!

What team that might be picking in the top 3 would be willing to move down?
The reason you want to move up is also the reason they'd want to stand pat.
There hasn't been an intentional trade of a top 3 pick since before the Salary Cap was instituted.
(By which I mean that it was known the pick would be in the top 3 at the time it was traded).

Our cupboard is so empty I think it’s better to use both picks on prospects if we’re going full rebuild. Like, I either use both picks on picks or both picks in trades.

Speaking of young guys in a Tomasino type of situation, I wonder if the Penguins could pull off Hendrix Lapierre from Washington for a pick. He seems to have outgrown the AHL but hasn't established himself as a NHLer yet. Washington doesn't have a spot for him but he seems like a good reclamation project type that should be attainable for like a 3rd.

I thought I was Ben, but the universe was Matt Damon. Like I was begging the universe to fire Sully, or I’d have to destroy it.

Do they have a need for Gryz? I feel like that could be interesing, Gryz + Acciari for Lapierre + 4th or something like that

No I don't think so, their depth on defense is very good. They even have Ethan Bear in the AHL, I think he'd probably be the Penguins 3rd or 4th best defenseman.

I think Lappiere would either be a small piece in a Rakell trade or just be moved for like a 3rd.
