Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXVI: Sid is Still Goat

You don't need official words from Rob Blake to see that Clarke keeps getting healthy scratched despite leading their team in scoring among defensemen.
He's their future #1, and Drew came back, are they going to bottom pair him?

I think it is all a rouse...

Would they part with him for a risky gamble at a playoff run? Currently matched up vs. Oilers (again) at the moment. Does an addition of a winger really put them over the top?

It's a serious gamble not to take lightly.

I'd say no. He's not available, and they do view him as their top prospect.

Kyle should trade the NYR pick for Clarke.

100%

That makes me think Tampa wouldn't do it then

The idea sprung up from that Tuch trade thread, where a Lightning fan was thinking that a 3-way deal where Buffalo gets Rakell and the Penguins get futures from Tampa would alleviate Buffalo's concern with trading Tuch. I wonder if Rakell to Tampa could just work instead, Tampa does have about $6 million in cap space right now.

The only interesting thing with that article is that the team seems way higher on Murashov than they are on Blomqvist. Other than that, it's the same thing Yohe has been saying for months.

lol…uneventful deadline then…

Tldr:

Crosby & Malkin untouchable and don't even bother asking.

Gryz, Beau, Acciari, pack yo shit

Rakell out there, but it's going to be a big return or no deal. ( I read this as Dubas using the media to tell other GMs to up the bids.)

Rust and Letang Dumb and Dumber so you're telling me there's a chance 1%.

EK65 - it could happen, but easier to do in the summer

LOL, just LMAO, you wish: Graves and Jarry

Then he lists pretty much everyone else on the NHL roster over the age of 23 as available. All the AHL kids and prospects are in the not untouchable for the right deal, but this is what we're trying to add more of so it would have to be a haul category.

What made it funnier was that JR retained on Hagelin and then tried to reacquire him at the deadline later that year, only to be told that wasn't allowed.
Not sure which one was better, that or when he just ran out of cap room and they had to play with 5D for the last part of the season until the playoffs rolled around. Love it or hate it, the JR era was quite the ride.

Our best player is 37. Our second best player is 34.

Penguins need to get at least two, probably more, high lottery picks and hit big on them. Full stop.

The best way to surround those draft picks with talent is secondary. Have to get the guys first.
Until the first two retire, it doesn't matter who you bring in they will still be the best and second best players on this team. That only changes if it's either McDavid or MacKinnon.

The weirdest part was how he just gave up on hiring replacements. After 2016 the Pens were bleeding AGMs. Boterill, Geurin and Karmanos all gone and then also other people like Ventura. Don't know if it was about consolidating power for JR or what but you could see in his moves by 2020 that JR was just doing random shit and had no one to tell him no

Then bounced as soon as someone told him no  (allegedly)

I am optimistic that Acciari gets moved at the deadline, I know they should be trying to sell everyone but I would definitely pick trading guys with term over rentals if I could pick. They really need to get out of Acciari's deal and I'd move him out before anyone else if I could pick.

Make L4 Lizotte-Ponomarev-Glass going forward, I like the mix of that line. It satisfies Sullivan's need to have a righty faceoff option for L4, all of the players are good defensively and can kill penalties, and it's substantially more skilled than what it was with guys like Nieto and Acciari on it.

Interesting trade proposal idea, would you do Rakell to Tampa Bay for Conor Geekie and a 2025 2nd?
Yes, 100%. I doubt Tampa does though. That said, I was fairly high on Geekie during his draft year and I was surprised he fell as much as he did. If you can score a 1C in the next two drafts, he'd be a great 2C.

Crazy idea:
Acciari
For
Reeves
3rd

Toronto gets centre depth and an actual hockey player. Pittsburgh gets a face puncher you know Sully will happily bench for a prospect.

I want Crosby to keep getting points, so that means keeping Rakell.

He'll still be valuable in 2 years at the TDL when he's a UFA. no rush, keep him for Sid.

ill take a 2026 1st anyway, over a 2025 1st.

ill take JR over Dubas, hextall.

he atleast goes and gets who he wants.

Yeah, I think people underestimate just how capable that Penguins FO was during the B2B. When they leave, it's tough to replace them because there's just not that many people in the NHL world. Those good people are tough to find and it takes awhile to groom them. This is why I love what Dubas is doing by getting Spezza and Amanda Kessel in while still being the POHO/GM. If and when Spezza moves up, I hope they grab another one to replenish the FO prospect pool just like they are with WBS.

What would stink is if someone cans their GM and they offer it to Spezza and then someone offers Amanda Kessel a major PWHL position. Then you're back to square one. But if that happens, I'll let Kyle know I'm available as always.

id trade Malkin if a team was dumb enough to want him and his washed up play.

Move Rust for a 1st this offseason. move EK for a similar return Jones got, and we're looking good.

if anyone wants Letang for free, even better.
