With Bunting out, it makes me wonder if I want to call up McGroarty or Koivunen and give them a look in the top-6. I generally think they should keep down those two plus Broz and Pickering for as much of this year as possible, but getting a 3-4 week run on Malkin's line and then going back to WBS wouldn't be bad for any of their developments.

That said, Spezza said in an article that their strategy is to not call them up "until they're here to stay", so I'm expecting that they spend all of this year in the AHL. Which I don't really mind tbh.

That seems like an unnecessarily dumb thing to say publicly.

Even if it is the plan, keep that internally. Now that it’s out there, if a guy comes up and isn’t ready or underperforms, there is additional unneeded pressure as the team said they wouldn’t come up until they’re staying up.

Bunting probably wasn't going to be dealt anyway, but if a GM really wanted him, they'd still trade for him. It's not like he blew out his knee or shoulder or something. It's a limited, defined, non-hockey health procedure. He'll be fine. It's not even a concern for a GM.
Guesstimated the 22nd for 3 weeksish.
At that point, the Pens still have 11 games left. Plenty of time left if another team were interested. They should have close to the same amount of games remaining.

Which I get, but I don't. I would say give the player at least a good 10 games in the NHL to experience the speed and strength of the top league as motivation for their offseason training. But whatever.

The trade deadline is next Friday so at this point he isn't getting traded until the summer

Spezza said that's what they've been telling the prospects as well, so it's not like it's new to them.

Injured players can still be traded. Anyone trading for him was suspect to begin with. As Dennis pointed out, it's not a lingering injury that would make acquiring him questionable going forward.
But if anyone is interested, there's still time in the regular season for Bunting to acclimate to his new team.

Yup and it is permissible to trade injured players as long as there has been full disclosure.

It's hard to think clearly when there's a camera or mic in your face.

Like I said, keep it internal. Now if a prospect gets sent down after being called up, people can rightfully speculate that the team has given up on them as they themselves said they wouldn’t come up until they’re staying for good.

I cannot tell if this is satire.

I mean, expecting this team to develop players is hilarious when you look at their track record.

Here is my ideal deadline...

Lizotte to New Jersey for Edmonton's 2nd + Curtis Lazar
Rakell at 25% to LA for 2025 1st + Trevor Moore
Gryz for a 5th to Ottawa
Ned to Edmonton for Podkolzin and a 6th

Gives you..

Moore - Crosby - Rust
Beau - Malkin - Glass
Bunting - Hayes - Tomasino
Lazar - Acciari - Podkolzin
Imama

Shea - Letang
Graves - EK
Kolyachonok - Desharnais

Jarry
Blom

for the rest of the year. perfect tanking while adding a 1st and a 2nd and no long term commitments outside of Moore who is 28 and you should be able to capitalize on in a few years.

In what world does Lizotte return a 2nd + Lazar? You also forgot Heinen in the lineup.

Here's my worry or issue with the upcoming TDL and our deals - I think taking on Heinen and Desharnais really limits how many roster players we should be taking back that are not on expiring deals. Moore might be an exception because he has potential to legitimately fill a spot and can be someone we flip later. Lazar? Podkolzin? And then Heinen and Desharnais? Very likely not. That's 4 roster players that are not moving the needle for us and they are blocking WBS kids.

Now, if there is legit commitment from the organization to tank for McKenna, then I'm on board because those are the moves that would help that effort.

ETA: To clarify, I'm not disagreeing with the moves because I would rather tank, what I'm saying is that is too many roster players to be brining in if the goal is not to tank. Which I don't think they are ready to do.

I must admit I'm very surprised at how slow things have been on the trade front.... In the past few seasons, everything happened 2-3 weeks before and only the smaller deals happened 24to 48 hours to deadline. Yes, the playoff race has never been as tight in the past years but I'm very surprised it's been slow. I'm assuming teams will wait for this weekend before deciding if they're buyers or sellers... Should be an interested 7 days ahead ..

I think you said it yourself, there are a lot of potential sellers that aren't quite ready to say if they are in or out. Utah has like 8 or 10 pending UFAs that would really change the supply dynamics if they decided to sell. Contenders are hoping a bit more inventory hits the shelves before they start handing out a 1st and a top prospect for 3rd line centres.

I saw that Dach is out with a serious knee injury. While that sucks for him, I'm secretly, low-key relieved a bit because that's one of the guys I thought Dubas might pursue with the Rangers 1st.

I see the shininess of that Rangers 1st and Fernstrom has already worn off

Let’s say we have 6OA. Let’s say the nucks offer EP for it. That’s a no from all of you, right? (Just trying to gauge what kind of player you’d actually trade our pick for)
