Let's throw an obscene amount of money at Marner, give him a full NMC, and look back in two years when Sullivan's cratered his value and he's an unmovable player because he's making $14M AAV and controls his trade destination.

As I said, we are middle of the pack with cap space. We are not going to be offering the most money.

I doubt it, but depends on if Dubas gets creative.

Also, we are in the middle of the pack with cap space, but could potentially change that within the next few weeks and in the offseason.

I don't want them to sign Marner, I just think saying "it'll never happen because of other markets" is silly.

Look at Gaudreau and Horton going to Columbus.

Hopefully he got waived. Or traded. Or just decided to retire mid-season out of shame.

Feels like someone Edmonton will take a flier on for like a 7th.

Good thing the new guy is getting a chance to show what he's made of. :eyeroll:

I assume he was brought in because they are going to move Gryz with in the next two weeks and want to keep Pickering in the AHL.

We’re not the only team who may unload some contracts. You also assume we will not be an internal budget team. I don’t care what FSG has said, they exist to make money. The building has been pretty empty and only getting emptier.

Maybe that's why they invest in trying to get a playoff spot next year.

If they do, I am willing to bet it goes as well as Dubas’ first attempt to get us back into the playoffs.

Even if they want to, as I’ve said, I see no reason for any of the good UFAs to pick us. There are many, many better situations.

If Dubas was smart he’d continue to try to get paid to take on contracts so teams can go overpay for their next shiny toy mistake.

I could see Toronto trading Marner for Bunting, McGroaty & Rags first.

The real question is would that trade be good for the franchise for both short and long term.?.

Why would the Penguins do this exactly?

If you want to trade for Marner before he hits UFA, trade like a 3rd for his UFA rights after the season is done.

You seem to be misconstruing me saying that Dubas potentially signing a big ticket player is something that could happen into something I think is good or positive.

Not a chance in hell Toronto trades Marner in season. He has a full NMC too so he would never come here.

True, but the Pens are one of a few teams with that much cap space without significant RFA/UFA players that need to be signed. Columbus has $46MM in projected space, but they have half a team full of UFAs. Toronto has $31MM but a bunch of RFAs that will get significant raises.

I still think it'd be f***ing stupid to let Marner walk just to keep Tavares but the Leafs are gonna Leafs.

The fact that Marner gets tossed under the bus up there year after year when he certainly seems like their second and on some nights first most dynamic/gamebreaking player just feels so... Toronto-y.

HURRRRR WE NEED MOAR GUYZ LIKE DARCY TUCKER DURRRRRRR
