Sully crushing 4 Nations and Olympics will hopefully be the straw that breaks the camels back.

At this point for him to go its clear that it needs to be HIS decision.

Hopefully everyone fawns over him after international success and he decides to go to a contender.

Sully is here until Sid doesn't want him to be.
Sid can be really stupid sometimes…how many years of losing with Sullivan will he accept? He’s already got his friends back…someone needs to convince him to go to FSG immediately and tell them to can the coach lol

Because Sid doesn’t want to sit in the neutral zone and play a conservative game. He’s bought the lie that they will be able competitive sooner than later.

I don't think Sid is that dumb, I think he's just comfortable. It's the same reason regular people stay at jobs they don't like: it's what they know. He knows Sully and he won two cups with Sully. At this point in his career, I think he just wants to ride out the last few years with his boys (Letang and Geno) and a coach he knows.

Hahahaha probably

But that’s kind of the point of my post. Media and everyone is telling him how great he is after some USA Hockey success… and he’s like “I’m not getting younger I wanna go coach a Cup contender”
I'm mildly surprised his ego hasn't pushed him out by now with their lack of success.

I don’t think you have to be dumb to be misled, but yeah I’m sure comfortability is part of it.he did just he was comfortable where he was at a couple days ago.

From Matt Vensel’s “From the Point” story this morning…just depressing to wake up to this lol…

• I anticipate we will see Mike Sullivan behind the bench next season, as well. If so, all those theories about him and young players are going to be put to the test.

There's really nothing in there that we haven't already discussed here as far as the trade groups go. I did find it interesting that he thinks Nedeljkovich will stick around. I figured him to be a valuable trade commodity (relative to goalie value) this TDL, especially if you can get a goalie back as a stop gap.

Re: The Sullivan comment, I don't disagree. I can't imagine they are too upset with him at this point but at the same time, we are where we are largely because of Sullivan. So really, the time to jettison him was this summer and they didn't do it. The comment regarding young kids is interesting because it suggests that his potential short comings with young players is well-known (outside of the opinion of HF). But this is where Dubas plays perhaps the BIGGER role...STOP giving Sullivan the option. If you claim guys like Harkins and keep signing guys like Nieto, Acciari, and to a lesser extent Lizotte - he's going to defer to them over the young guys (that he may or may not have problems with). If you trade those guys away, or better yet don't sign them in the first place, you don't have that issue. Sullivan will be forced to use them and it will truly offer insight as to whether or not he's the best choice to lead this new group.
Moving this here, to not derail the 4Nations thread.

Yeah, and that's my point. This is not the time to make expensive, long-term commitments to players over 30.
Those players will be too old to be big contributors when the Pens are ready to win again. Hell, they probably won't even be here or will just straight up be retired when that happens.

In the same vein, this is 100% the time to deal Rakell. Capitalize on his value in an outlier year and unload him. You don't need anything out of him in rebuild years.
I agree with this. If we trade Rakell though, I am still okay with Dubas going to FA and signing a top 6 wing for Sid though. Even if it means giving someone a 6x6. All of the bottom feeder teams right now have a decent top 6 wing on a fancy contract and it's not preventing any organization goal.

Some suggestions include: Hall, Iafallo, Mangiapane, or...if we are willing to stretch - Ehlers.

None of these guys would prevent a tank but they would all likely help Sid get his points as much as Rakell or Rust is right now.

Another side note - Re: "we are not a first class organization anymore" - how so? (Aurora - not directed at you). The fact that we aren't a cup contender doesn't mean we don't treat players well. And if we are not treating players well, can someone provide examples? Like something along the lines of "when it was Mario and Burkle, they did X, Y, and Z. Now that it's FSG, they've taken away Christmas!"

Is there any actual basis for the comment or do people just not like FSG?

He doesn’t have to get a coach that plays that way…what he needs to find is a coach who will actually play the young guys in prominent positions and trust them even if they don’t PK or make mistakes without the puck…Sid can still play a successful attacking game that way

I think that's pretty much the only hope, yeah. Sully deciding he doesn't want to waste his talent on a rebuilding team, or Sid asking for a new coach. Not optimistic at all about either one though.

He really isn't!! He blames himself first and then his teammates for the lack of success.

I think some of you guys underestimate the bond that gets created when you win two cups with a coach.

Sid backing Sullivan is more than just comfort. There's a real bond there.

Put yourself in his shoes. Wouldnt you be pretty ride or die for a coach who helped cement your legacy?

Sid playing with his buddy is certainly a consideration. Looking at the AV;s they don't address what the POens really need. But I feel Sid is her anyway. But cap with a trade of Karlsson with 2.5 retention will bring back a nice pick and young forward. Next Detroit has to compete after years of rebuilding. Rust is a good add for them. they can move a 1st for him. Pens depending on what each pick year is either have 2 or 3 first round picks in 25. Rangers pick could be 2026. In any event, Unless Dubas is blown away this off season for Rakell, i keep him with Sid and add a very good LW. Top 10 pick for O'Brien RH center, Then add a nice RW or two with the next picks.

Lol I don't think Sid would body a guy to get an empty net goal in a regular season game. Definitely going all out for this tournament and why not? He ain't getting playoff hockey this year and must know it.

I wonder what sort of toll this is taking on his body and whether or not he'll sit games out when he comes back.

Would you be ride or die with a wife who continually lets you down? Great that you have a few kids together, but have some f***ing self respect.

Yeah I was wondering if we're going to get a situation where he's shut down after the tourney or not. Can't imagine playing through the wrist injury is doing wonders for recovery.

Maybe he'll play through it for another 7 years before he finally gets surgery like the last time!

I mean it's insanely f***in hard to win a cup. So yeah if I won two cups with a coach I would probably be pretty loyal to them. That's just human nature. Blame Sid for that if you want but I don't think any of us in his shoes would be any different.

Yeah I just hope he doesn't destroy his body trying to push this corpse of a team into a playoff spot. Better off getting healthy for next season probably.

But Sid gonna Sid

Next season doesn't matter either. The only thing he's got left is that 2026 Olympics tbh.

But yeah, you don't get to Sid's level without a whole lot of throwing caution to the wind for the sake of competing.
