Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXV - Poolman and Poolparty?!?

OK, more (bad?) ideas to weaponize cap space. Would anyone be willing to take on either Huberdeau (10.5m through 2031) or Landeskog (7m through 2029) in exchange for dumping one of Jarry or Graves the other way? Still looking for the PLD for Kuemper deal.

Dubas, hurry up and trade Raks before the market is flooded. Now rumor has it THE
Jared McCann might be be available. Just a tick below Rakell in career gpg, apg and ppg., same cap hit and 1 less year on his contract.
I don't know if many GMs are going to take McCann over Rakell if the cost is the same. Seems like McCann would be more of a Plan B for GMs if they are taking to Dubas about Rakell.

I don't think Calgary does that anymore but I am still on board.

The more I look at this, the more I realize there's almost no such thing as a bad contract anymore l, at least not to a guy under about 33 years old. Cap going up is going to make everyone underpaid soon. Rangers dumping Trouba with no retention was an eye opener.

Is it?

Trochek hit 77 points last year. Kreider 75. Nelson 69 points.

Tage had 56 and Caulfield had 65..

It's not like this is Abelkader over Kessel or something.
Since 2022-23 only Matthew’s has scored more goals than Tage when considering nationality.

If not egregious, it was at least dumb to pass him over.

I don't see him playing the minutes he plays in BUF over Eichel, Matthews, Tkachuk or Guentzel.

I don't know. Not really sold on Tage being the player you're saying he is. And most of the consideration went into roster building prior to this season. Tage had 29 last year.

People need to get over the idea that Huberdeau is a cap dump. Hes on pace for 35+ goals this season, his best ever. Yeah that contract doesnt look great, but its serviceable and hes a top line winger on a team fighting for a playoff spot. Flames arent trading him for crap. In a couple of years that contract will be nothing compared to the 15+ mil contracts that are going to be the norm.

Time to strike was before this year.

The time was 1.5 seasons ago before Huska took over as coach. Huberdeau has assumed a huge leadership role on the Flames, is a key penalty killer and is now showing his offensive side again. Hes gone from a offensively only winger to someone who plays a 200ft game and relied on in all situations. At this point I dont think you could get him to waive or for the Flames to trade him without something significant coming back.

Would you send Graves and a first? Pens need a top line winger and that cap hit doesn't scare me anymore.

And this benefits the Flames how? Because I can tell you there is zero reason they would do this. Again, they are fighting for a playoff spot, they have 2 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts and are looking to add impact offensive players. They arent going to trade their leading scorer for a 1st and a cap dump. Even adding in someone like McGroarty to your offer doesnt do anything for them. There is nothing the Flames would want that the Pens have. At best McGroarty turns into the player Huberdeau is now. Conroy has been very clear the Flames are only interested in adding players in the 23-25 age range. Pens have none of that.

Would be a summer move but point taken. Where are you finding us a top line F and top pair LD?

Best chance for the Pens is that Marner goes to UFA, which I think is likely. Offer him 14mil a year. Keep him for the 2-3 years Sid is here and then trade him to a team of his choice.

Defense is the great unknown. All depends on what they do with Karlsson.

I'm all for Marner but other than maybe the Dubas connection, why would he choose us? Ehlers or Boeser are a little more realistic. Defense I agree. Don't even know who to target. Gavrikov, maybe?

Boeser is going to the Wild. Be shocked if he signs anywhere else. Marner might choose the Pens because Dubas knows him, to play with Sid and because we can offer him more than most teams out there. Ehlers would be a good option too. Marner is the best forward after Rantanen though. Gavrikov might be a good option. Pens need 2 Petts type defenders, if they keep Karlsson. Pickering could possibly be one with Letang. But we need to find a partner for Karlsson or an anchor for the 2nd pairing.
