I don't see an avenue where the Pens could help in this situation.

They don't have a center the Canucks could use to replace Petts, and I don't see where they retain for picks or prospects on Petts and his long contract. Just seems like attention grabbing.

Article is almost two weeks old, think the guy was just putting together the Pettersson to VAN + Buffalo interested in Pettersson + Pittsburgh interested in Buffalo's prospects info into one speculative piece.

People have so many positives things to say about Kolyachonok, and his analytics are pretty strong.
Curious why Utah dropped him.

The current LHD depth is Cole, Maatta and Sergachev. They have multiple LHD prospects above him and he wasn’t playing. Marino came back. They have multiple injuries and DiSimone is above him on the depth chart.

I'd agree with that assumption. My assumption was, pairing it with the "Pens want Buffalo's prospects rumor, Pettersson to Buffalo for something like Pettersson+ for Cozens+Bensen, then Bensen to Pittsburgh with a bit of extra going with Pettersson and DOC.

Basically, that 1st for Benson. That seems to match up with what we've heard in the past. IIRC, Penguins really liked Benson in 2023. And Dubas wants to add young players and he's after ones from Buffalo so...it lines up a bit.

I’d rather have Peterka over Benson…

Sid's skating between Stone (lol) and MacKinnon at practice with Canada. Thought for sure Marchand was getting the LW spot there.

Must be weird for Sid to be surrounded by top flight talent again.

His arm got tweaked good. My wife suggested a deltoid or brachialis strain or even a bicep tendon strain.

At that point, unless there is major damage, it's a "it will heal when it heals". Get some anti-inflams and some rest and ice and gentle PT on it, I imagine it would be good to go. Might hurt a bit but certainly nothing that screams long term issue.

Sid’s gonna end the way Mario did and treat our games as warmup for international tournaments. Mario played like 20 games before the Olympics in 2002 and peaced out after the games.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I think the Olympics (especially when you DON'T have a gold medal yet) and "4 Nations" are a bit different, lol.

Yeah. People being like "they have to do right by Sidddddd maaaaaaaan" don't realize that dude's just taking a victory lap and waiting for his shot at another gold in the 2026 Olympics. Dude does not give a shit about where this team's at anymore--he knows better than we do how cooked they are. He just wants to retire having played his entire career with one team and he is sticking around for that final Olympic shot.

The NHL told me these are important and certainly not a manufactured cash grab.

I think some players just jump at the opportunity to wear their National jersey since the NHL and the Olympics have had a complicated relationship for the better part of 2 decades.

That might be a bit harsh. It wouldn't unreasonable to suggest that Sid committed himself to retiring in Pittsburgh and now that the writing it on the wall regarding the NHL playoffs, he is going to go all in at 4-Nation and the Olympics as he actually has a chance to win at those.

Adding a "4 Nations" win and Olympic gold as captain would be a nice capping to the career. It would easily make him one of the most decorated winners in hockey history. Then use your last year (or two) to pump up your stat line to finish top 5.

The organization can still "do right by him" and plan for the future in the same breath.
