Novak rocks. Would be a killer add for us and we could probably get him back on the level he was previously and return a pick with him.

Obviously that's the intention with all the additions. Ehlers, Novak, and Hague are the type of players you leverage into picks.

I don't know what Gavrikov is pacing towards for his next contract, but he seems like someone to overpay a wee bit on a shorter contract.

There are so many contradictions in this post alone, let alone in combination with what you've said previously. I won't even bother to address it all, I'll just leave it at this: you spent almost a decade in academia studying finance of all topics. You have unarguably "participated in the fight on the hierarchy" quite a bit more than "as a little as possible," and you certainly are interested in earning more money than merely what you "need."
Correct. People change and evolve.

Remembering when Weekes posted a stock image of the sunset from Mt. Washington and you dipshits went wild with incoming trade fantasies.
Well MP was traded a week later. And the Rantanen trade took months according to Tulsky.

Not that I think Weekes knows anything lol.

Well that’s my point. He is more of a let’s retool and be competitive piece plus we’d have to pay him and he could potentially just structure that contract to get to UFA quickly with his ELC coming up this year.
The Pens aren't planning to be bad in 5 years.

Bichsel and a 1st for EK at 50% would be such a win.
It's possible we could really bend them over here.

We're not the team that just lost an elite 1D who won't be back for months, if at all this season.

We're not the team having a great season and in the middle of an aggressive playoff push.

There are no other Karlsson-level defensemen available who could potentially fill the void left by Heiskanen.

You want him, you can have him. But it'll cost you.

I just think Nill is too smart to do that. But at the same time he signed Boosh, Dumba and acquired Ceci.

And in 5 years Bourque will be 28 and overpriced.

Yeah the only UFA RHD that might be available is Savard and he is no replacement for Heiskanen. If you want a RHD at the deadline, you basically have to acquire someone with term

Overpriced? That's a pretty ridiculous way of looking at a trade. "When we want to be in a new contention window, this guy will be in his prime and we won't want to pay him if he pans out." That's just silly. Just say you don't like the player lol.

I do like the player. But that is how our GM should be thinking right now.

You either have assets or prospects that'll be 24-25 when we are ready to compete.

If you think Bourque can be flipped as an asset then you make the move, but just saying that's the mindset Dubas should be operating with.

Adding 23-25 year olds now potentially puts us on the path to being just competitive enough to not get the essential top 5 picks post Sid / Geno era.

Heiskanen is a LHD.

To be honest even if you plug Mitch Marner into that lineup I'm still not sure it's a playoff team lol. That defense just stinks and you're asking a lot out of a young bottom six.
You need Marner AND a top line LD. Like it might be better to throw 10M at Ehlers and then 8M at a LD
