My bet is that EK is the main guy that's attractive, with the rising cap they probably won't need to eat much money to trade him. A $7 million cap hit in EK's last year will be like a $5 million cap hit today.

I've really come to debate whether to trade Karlsson this off-season or wait. I generally don't think his value is going to change all that much, I think he's a safe bet to continue being the ~60 point OFD that can't play defense. The risk of regression isn't there like it is with Rakell and I feel you can pretty easily justify holding onto him to see if he can go on a hot run. Even him just repeating his 2023-2024 season would likely put him in a better value spot than right now.

I'd only be targeting 2026 or 2027 picks if I'm trading Karlsson, and if that's the case, why can't they just hold on to Karlsson until the 2026 draft and then trade him for a 2026 pick then?

If they are trying to be competitive in the next two years I’d say you shouldn’t move EK. He’s easily our best offensive driver.

If we can move out Rakell this year I think it’s no longer a smart move it’s almost unforgivable if they don’t.

I don't see why Rakell wouldn't get a haul, with how he has played this year. Definitely a 1st line winger - not a great one, mind you - on an affordable contract for 3 more years.

I think offers could be better after July 1st just because of EKs signing bonus. The Sabres had to take a worse trade for O'Reilly a few years back because ownership refused to pay his bonus on July 1st. His signing bonus was 8m compared to EK's 5m though so it shouldn't be as impactful but it could make a difference in value

Maybe? Rakell would absolutely get a 1st. The only thing is it will have to be a team that wants a top 6 winger for more than one playoff run, but that's a positive for some teams. He's a consistent top 6 performer on a friendly contract and plays a style that coaches like and helps his linemates.

Maybe with Graves he wouldn't be worth a 1st....

Rakell isn't a UFA, and the fact the cap is going up, he should fetch a 1st without retention and a prospect.

He has no negative impacts.

You guys have to stop comparing our guys with term with UFA's.

More that I wonder if teams view Rakells season as an aberration or legit.

Last off season we would have been lucky to find a taker for Rakell.
