Yeah, I think it'd be a pretty big f*** up to somehow get a 1st (that looks like it may be a good one, potentially great) for Petts just to turn around and toss it at a reclamation project like Nemec or Zegras. Akin to Hextall finally somehow dumping all of that trash (McGinn, Kap, Blueger) just to use the cap on Granlund instead of Chychrun.

But Zegras did go to Boston U, so, y'know. There's that little horror hanging above all of our heads.

A 21 year old reclamation project? lol

Nemec is a future stud.

I have it all figured out:

Bunting to Colorado for a 2nd
1st + Acciari to Anaheim for Zegras
Rakell + Graves to Calgary for Huberdeau
Nedeljkovich to Edmonton for 3rd
Resign: Gryz, POJ, Pono, Hallander, Tomasino, Glass
Sign: Marner $13.5mil x 7yrs
Finished bottom 5 and draft Misa

Huberdeau-Crosby-Marner
Zegras-Malkin-Rust
McGroarty-Misa-Tomasino
Lizotte-Glass-Hallander

POJ-Letang
Pickering-Karlsson
Gryz-Desharnais

Blomqvist-Murashov

It fits under the cap. $3mil or so in space.

What I think is wild about the whole Rust saga is that, honestly, if we were going to pick one homegrown fully developed Pen to hold on to forever, it should have been Jake.

But Rust has been so pumped up as "playing the right way" in the team's PR and their own eyes that we held on to him instead. Just imagine a slightly different situation where we'd negotiated seriously with Jake and gave him the raise he wanted at the expense of shipping out Rust or other deadweight.
i imagined it and i can’t say i care

This is the kinda psycho trades NBA fans get and we're like OH SHIT Petts for a mid 1st!

The NBA has fully leaned into promoting only their stars. Couldn't be more different than the NHL. It would be so chaotic with no real cap and teams and players with no loyalty to each other. Imagine Colorado being able to say f*** it, signing McDavid and Draisaitl for 3 years for 50 million dollars a year, winning 3 times in a row and then losing them, MacKinnon and Makar to other random teams the next year and being the worst in the league. Wild.

I'd rather have Mason McTavish over Zegras.

There's a whole lotta stank in Anaheim this year. With 9 1st round picks too, though not all recent to be fair.
And 5th rounder Troy Terry's better than a few of them. And not just this year. He's averaging slightly over .8 points per game the last 4 seasons.

I'd like to see Koivunen up here next year. Avery Hayes interests me too. That guy can finish and he defends.
McGroarty's not getting it done yet. His goal scoring is crap (6 in 37 games in WBS) and he's still learning defense. I don't care how high someone was drafted if they're not bringing it. He can stay down there until he's one of our 12 best Forwards.

As long as wrote can out out own conditions on the pick I'm on trading it (if its for a 20-22 year old stud).
Like if the rangers pick is outside top 13 this year we send it. Otherwise it becomes our own 2026 2nd.

The nba is a racket for big markets. The fact that Dallas didn’t even call other teams to discuss trading Luka is all I needed to hear. Anything they can do to prop up King Fraud. They’ll fizzle out in the playoffs, claim Lebron doesn’t have any help, and blame the coach while completely memory holing that Lebron hired him because he’s bff’s. Trash league. Glad we don’t have a team. End rant

If you're trading the Rangers 1st for a young guy, you're most likely to get someone similar to what Newhook was when the Habs traded a 1st for him. Which didn't really work out for them but I understand the thought process.

Ironically the Habs have tried that numerous times with Newhook, Dach and Dvorak and every single one of them have ended up duds. You could definitely attribute it to the Habs being both a tirefire team and a high pressure environment, but the Habs failing so often definitely makes me more hesitant with the idea.

The Islanders did benefit really well when they made that move though, I believe they traded pick #13 for Romanov and Romanov is a mainstay on their defense. +44 in 3 years while playing over 20 minutes a night from ages 23-25? That's a good player.

NBA ratings are down big time. the Mavs forward is an out of shape player who has played half the games this year. He is on a new contract at 345 million so moving him was what I would have done. If you are not in condition at 25, what do you think he will be later in his career? Salary dump of this magnitude is not uncommon in a league that spends like there is no tomorrow. I was surprised the cap going up that much but some day the revenue will be subject real interest. NBA wants Lebron to win for obvious reasons. But they are kicking a dead horse here with a 39 year old in decline. FSG has interest in buying the Celtics. Not sure where that stands. Flipping Liverpool and using that for the Celtics makes sense for the regional network.

I think Acciari, Grzelcyk & Beauvillier can all fetch us late picks, maybe conditional ones in Beauvillier’s case.

I would love to see them clear out Acciari. He's fine as a forth liner on a contender when you need safe minutes, but he's clogging up the bottom of the roster and we already have Hayes to fill the slow useless vet role in the bottom six.
