Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXV - Poolman and Poolparty?!?

I am not saying no to first rounders. I am saying that deal should draw a prospect or something more.

Rakell is 13th in the league in EVS goals this year. He can go to a team and not rely on PP time to put up points. That is a big deal for contenders.

I just think you are underselling his value. A team would get at least 3 solid playoff runs (31,32,33) while paying him peanuts.

Is Sidney Crosby coming with him?

i don't see the need to retain on Rakell, but I'm assuming they're gonna move EK out, given the state of the team, and with retention, I was expecting a decent return. But you're right, if we're not going to use retention, it doesn't really impact us.

Trading EK65 for nothing to Carolina is gonna suck ass.

Between trades and offer sheets, STL only has a 1st, 5th, and 6th this year. I wonder if we could get a couple 2nds this TDL, would they trade us their first for those 2nds and a late pick?

I think the plan for the deadline should be to trade Bunting and Pettersson as the "main" pieces along with any pending UFA or RFA that you can get good value for. I'd keep Tomasino because I don't think you'd get anything worthwhile to trade him, but the rest I'd move for any sort of 2nd-4th round pick if you can get it.

Cap rising makes Rakell more likely to be dealt at the deadline/draft this year. His 5M cap looks alot more enticing.

Rakell to Buffalo for Isak Rosen + 2nd

I think Sam Bennett has Dubas 7X7 written all over it on July 1st (He's 3 years younger and probaby someone Crosby will endorse and fills the 2C role, moving Geno to the wing)

Talk about nightmares..

Dubas is notorious for doing the opposite. Taking a 1st and trading it down.
Ugh. I feel like we have enough supporting to meh prospects, and will only add more with 3 3rds and 3 5ths in this draft. I would be looking to add another higher end piece to the farm on top of our 1st.

I don't necessarily hate the idea of that provided our own first is a high pick and we keep and use it.

But it'd be neat if Dubas could grab another first and package it with whatever to move up. Grier did a great job using our pick to move up and grab Sam Dickinson.

then again, aren't we about to have a ton of money come off the books? Maybe Dubas looks at all this space and thinks we can buy our way into contention next year.

(i'm basically speaking to myself in post form, don't mind my non-sequiturs)

Dubas is getting that$15 million AAV deal for Marner ready to go

To be honest if Marner hits free agency I wouldn't be totally shocked to see Dubas explore that.

What would shock me is Marner deciding to come here. I know he's friends with Sid but our future is dire.

I mean why not with the cap where it’s gonna be

Get a bunch of picks over the next 3 years for anything not strapped down this deadline, then try to pick up a star FA.

I’m not advocating that they’ll be good or competitive but having a Marner on the roster for the young guys in 3 years would be great. At least one line and PP1 is guaranteed to be semi functional. Like say they get a guy like McKenna who is on the roster in his teens - it’s not a complete Bedard situation.

Fast forward- that star rookie player is winding down their ELC when it’s Marners 5-6th year out of a presumed 7 years. The timing works pretty well.

I MUCH prefer this to the alternative where Dubas is like “why not keep Petts with the cap where’s it’s going” (although I assume that these agreed upon future cap numbers aren’t as shocking to GMs as they are to us and he’s had a good idea of where it’ll be)

I just don’t see an organization of finance bros that exists only to make money willing to spend upwards of $100 million on a roster when the building has been half empty for a year and a half.

We will spend some money, but I really don’t think we’re gonna make a huge splash. Even if we wanted to, it would take those players willing to sign here when like 20 other teams will also now have the cap space to offer them what they want.

look, Dude, it's 12:17pm on a shitty january day, the cap is going up by approximately 1 billion dollars, you will either get on board with our ALL-IN PLAN or we can ship you off to Philly, BUCKLE UP BUCKO
