Is it a deadline or games played on the roster?

The goal IMO should be to get as many picks/prospects possible this year and next to speed things up. I'm not saying ship out 5 veterans and have 5 rookies take their spots to start next season, money needs to be spent to replace some of the guys in the off season in UFA or via hockey trades..There needs to be a balance here though, go ask Buffalo how it has worked for them with only giving roster spots to young guys. It's why a large portion of their fans are basically begging the team to trade some prospects for NHL help, their prospect pool is insanely deep but the young guys aren't ready to carry the team yet.
That doesn't necessarily mean you have to keep Rakell, Bunting and Rust, but trading all of them and replacing them with young guys isn't the correct choice. It should be split more evenly between vets and young guys (I'd go 5 vets and 4 young guys in their top-9 personally) until the young guys firmly establish themselves as NHLers.
The goal for next year should be something like:
McGroarty-Crosby-Rakell
Koivunen-Malkin-Rust
Hallander-Glass-Tomasino
Lizotte-Ponomarev-Acciari

Getting a ton of picks/prospects and maximizing on their play this year is what we should be focusing on. No one can guarantee that Rust, Rakell or any other player will have just as good as a year next season or the one after. They could easily end up like Jarry on waivers if you ask me or another Riley Smith!!
Nah, he sucks. With Graves, Shea, POJ, and Pickering, there's just no need.We pick up Boqvist and trade a D here? Still very young at 24, probably give him a shot the rest of this season. But I haven't followed the Panthers much this year
Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a person on the roster (sans Sid and Geno) that I wouldn't be willing to trade if there's a deal to be made. I'm just at this weird juncture where I both do and don't want to trade guys and I think a lot of it has to do with how well (or rather NOT well) guys like Glass and Tomasino have worked out. They aren't bad but neither are moving the needle for us and they are taking up slots. You move all of Rakell, Bunting and Rust the moment you find deals for each of them imo. They take up roster spots that could be used to develop/evaluate younger guys. They take up cap that can be weaponized to bring back draft picks or prospects. And they're not going to be getting any better or increasing their value due to age. Doesn't make sense to hang on to any of these guys, this is a team that should be focusing on getting into the top 3 of the next few drafts to try and reduce the post-Sid years of misery.
Doubt you get anything super valuable for any of the tradeable guys on this team, but Dubas should be working the phones nonstop to try and move them regardless.
We have a 1st, and three 3rds in the draft? Would be nice to add a 2nd in there. More scratch off tickets we have the better. I hope MP can get that kind of return.
